seattletimMemberWhat are your favorite vegan restaurants in and near West Seattle? (Vegan is animal free food – no meat, eggs, milk, etc). It seems we always end up at the same places when we go out. The nest I wold recommend are in Georgetown – Squid and Ink and the Georgetown Liquor Company (and of course, PCC), What are your thoughts? Thanks, Tim

inactiveMemberTim –
I’ve been to the Georgetown Liquor Co. – so GOOD! And affordable, I think. And, I’m not a vegetarian. :) But, I’ve wondered if there were any vegan/vegetarian places in WS/peninsula that I just have not discovered yet. I’ll be looking forward to what folks have to say.

JiggersMemberI heard being a veggy person also makes you a crazy liberal.
June 1, 2008 at 6:56 pm #625813
AnonymousInactiveJiggers – I think you’re right.
If you think finding a “vegetarian” restaurant is difficult, try being a “raw foodist”. Very bizarre diet indeed.
(Ok, maybe not “bizarre”, don’t want to offend anyone, but challenging to say the least)

JeannieParticipantI’m proud to be a liberal, a vegetarian, and a reasonably sane person. I don’t know of any vegan restaurants in West Seattle, but I’ll bet some of the Thai places could prepare vegan dishes. And I, too, am a fan of Georgetown Liquor Company. Oh, by the way, I hear that being a carnivore who digs eating dead flesh makes you a crazy, right-wing conservative, like Pastor Hegge. Just kidding, Jiggers, but the kind of generalizations you make are tired and lame.

JiggersMemberOh Jeannie…You clearly can’t see the sarcasm in my post because you let your emotions get the best of you once again.

JanSParticipantwow, jiggers…it must be a new month, and you don’t have a place to live yet. You’re bound and determined to offend everyone today, aren’t you?

AnonymousInactiveJiggers – You haven’t offended me….. yet.

bunnypugMemberNot an all vegan restaurant by a long shot; but ate at Blackbird Bistro last night and noticed they had 3 entrees that could be prepared vegan. Also they feature a vegan dessert. They *do* have a local and organic focus and are just plain yummy. My favorite veggie/vegan restaurant in Seattle is Cafe Flora but they are in Madison Park.

JiggersMemberJan…I’m being nice right now, you don’t even want to get into a shouting match with me. I don’t need to make my points by using foul language, name calling, being boisturous, rude etc… I always have an opinion about something whether you think I’m right or not. This is the rant and rave section isn’t it? The kitchen’s about to become hot.

TheHouseMemberIs a hamburger considered vegan if I eat it with lettuce and tomato?

JanSParticipantjiggers, you’re supposed to rant or rave about SOMETHING, not just go off on people who disagree with you :) I’m sure you understand that, being the smart guy you are :)

AdmiralJanewayParticipantCarmelita’s restaurant in Greenwood is also good, vegetarian although maybe not vegan.

JenVMemberwe went to the Georgetown Liquor Company yesterday afternoon and it was great! Thanks for the recommendation!

keleesoMemberWe Eat at Olarn Thai and Maharaja – They are both very accomodating when we explain we are vegan. Tacaria Guyamas makes a good veggie burrito (sans cheese and sour cream) Also Abondanza Pizzaria and Garlic Jims make good cheeseless pizzas.

keleesoMemberHillside quickies on 15th, the Healthy Headonist and a little noodle house (on John, just off Denny) are all on Capital Hill. My favorite place of all is Arayas – it is in the University district. These are all vegan resturaunts

keleesoMemberGolly – I almost forgot: The Squid and Ink. It is a little vegan place in Georgetown. The staff is pierced and tatooed, the place is small, the music is loud and the food is fantastic!

saneyMemberi was less than impressed with Squid and Ink. terrible service, so-so food, unappetizing environment.

ChessaMemberI’m so glad I found this thread! We are moving to West Seattle tomorrow (from Detroit, ugh) and can’t wait to try some of the vegan eats in town. Yay!
June 3, 2008 at 12:01 am #625831
JanSParticipantChessa…welcome to West SEattle…you won’t regret the move….it’s great here :)
June 3, 2008 at 12:24 am #625832
ChessaMemberThanks, JanS! We are so thrilled to be moving back to the PNW. The Midwest was not our thing. In any way. We can’t wait to get there! :)

barmargiaMemberChessa, congrats on getting out of Detroit, I used to (many many many many years ago) live in Mt. Clemons, all I remember from my experience was “Detroit…ugh”. On the restaurant front, I think Portage Bay is vegetarian, or maybe it’s organic…I have a couple vegetarian (not vegan) friends who love it.

seattletimMemberThanks to all of you who replied (even the grumpy ones – you know who you are). : )
BTW – My partner was diagnsed with Type 2 diabetes and we made the vegan diet shift as a way of dealing with that and it has worked wonderfully (with no need for medication). So. . . there is more to this. It is a healthy diet and I feel better than I have in a long time – we have each lost a lot of weight too. We are lucky to live here with so many great choices of what and where to eat. Thanks for all of the info. I learned of some places I did not know about.
