I am going to be returning to work full time in the fall, and am realizing my childcare options are very limited for my two kids attending Schmitz Park. The Alki Kids Program no longer provides buses, Hiawatha has a long waiting list, and the YMCA does not specifically provide care for SP. Not to mention it’s 1100 a month for two kids. Any other parents have suggestions or find some kind of alternative? My kids are 10 and 7 so a bit too young to walk alone. Thanks for your help!

You might try the Fauntleroy Children’s Center. We were lucky enough to get into the Hiawatha day care for our daughter last year (and the upcoming) but she did preschool/daycare for years at FCC and loved it and it was our back up for before/after school care when she started kindergarten. They do also have a van that drives kids to and from Schmitz Park.

My daughter has gone to the Alki Community Center for the past two years after school (she takes the school bus from Schmitz Park). We’ve been happy with it.

We are in the same situation. My daughter is 6 and will be in 1st grade. We’ve been going to Alki Kid’s Club and this year the school district will no longer provide transportation from Schmitz Park to Alki Kid’s Club. We are on the wait list for Hiawatha and Fauntleroy after school care program. Will keep trying to figure out our options. Thanks for your help.
