Has anyone had a basement finished recently? We are looking to add two bedrooms and a bathroom in our basement. This would be work done by a contractor and not us. I was wondering if anyone who has had this done would be willing to share approximately what it cost?

    lenamegan,

Without particulars (square footage, finishes, plumbing fixtures etc.) really hard to ball park a price could be anywhere from 50 – 150K based on remodeling projects we’ve done in our own house. Maybe you could repost with more info to get a more idealistic range?

    Hi lenamegan,

jwws is right on the $. For two beds and a bath it could be as little as $50k or $60k. But an average basement remodel is usually in the $80-$100k range. Things to think about (and the reason why the price range is so wide): Do you have legal egress out of the bedrooms? (might need to saw cut the foundation) Are the walls framed out for insulation, or will that that be a cost? Are you replacing existing galvanized piping that runs to your upstairs plumbing fixtures since the area is open? Relocating furnace? Replacing knob and tube wiring? Are you doing a full bath with cabinetry and counters or thinking a simple pedestal sink?

Most general contractors will be able to provide ballpark pricing to help you understand the costs of your specific project.

    Good luck with the project!
