anonymeParticipantIndependent, probably not guilty but would need to see actual evidence. I deem media reports completely unreliable either way.

2 Much WhineParticipantI must say that I find it refreshing to see responses like anonyme has provided. There are soooooo many people that are convinced of her guilt or innocence yet they have only based their opinions on ten second soundbites and the latest expose in People magazine. It sure is interesting how many different viewpoints there are.

I am also surprised that there are so many political parties represented on this thread (Independent, Libertarian, Republican, Democrat, definitely not Tea Party, Strongly left leaning, just left of center, etc.). No wonder we have such spirited debates and discussions here on the blog!

ElizagraceParticipantI couldn’t say it better than Huindekmi:
to paraphrase:
I believe that Amanda did not wield the knife but implicated an innocent man. (why?)
Innocent of murder. Not decided on the rest of it.

redblackParticipantagain, i beg to know:
how can you possibly know?
and – more importantly – why do you care?
crikey. i think if CNN reported that someone had an anal polyp, the polyp and its owner would have 5,000 facebook friends within an hour.
[edit: no, i don’t watch american idol. never have. never will. my life is boring/interesting enough. i really don’t care about yours.]

metrognomeParticipantwell, I’m a Virgo and I figure if Nancy Grace thinks it’s a travesty that her conviction was overturned, Amanda *must* be innocent.

2 Much WhineParticipantWhat is wrong with being Facebook friends with an anal polyp? Let me tell you redblack, when I was younger I knew an anal polyp and you, my friend are no anal polyp.

DunnoParticipantParty? Where’s the bar, keg? Indy
Amanda did NOT kill her friend. Last I checked the murderer is still behind bars.
BTW: Jiggers, great idea for Meridith’s hometown and country. Why don’t you speahead this? A tragic loss of life.
Quick question for you. How much did the famaily pay the Italian Goverment to prosecute this case.
Yes they had travel cost, but again, why can’t the people of Britain help this family? Why do you drag Amanda’s hometown into fundraising for the Kerchers. You know what, I others in West Seattle would help them. Again, get into her hometown blog and do your thing!

HalynParticipantIt seems the thread has strayed from it’s original premise, but I’ll still play.
Libertarian. Not guilty.
I deliberately said “not guilty” rather than “innocent.” There are a lot of inconsistencies in her testimony about that night. Given the circumstances of her interrogation, I’m uncertain how much weight should be given to her original statement, but still. It just nags at my conscience a bit. I don’t think she wielded the knife. I think the forensics, tainted though they are, don’t support her being in the room when the killing took place. I wasn’t there, I haven’t read every report, I didn’t sit in a courtroom and hear testimony, but I just can’t shake the idea that she is involved somehow, if only in a peripheral manner. The false accusation of the bar manager (Sorry, I can’t think of how to spell his name) and the faking of a break-in gone wrong are hard to interpret. Was it a cover-up of a terrible crime performed by an infatuated, guilty young woman? Or was it a panic lie, told by an innocent woman who was afraid no one would believe the truth, who was sleep-deprived and afraid of further (alleged) abuse at the hands of authorities. As a white woman from a good background, Amanda had probably never had a negative experience with law enforcement in her life-the experience of being treated as a criminal could have been jarring enough to her to make her speak and act without thinking.
See how jumbled these things can get? When I look at it one way, I think “What is wrong with the Italian justice system? This poor girl spent four years in prison!!” Looked at another way, my thoughts could easily stray to “OMG, murderer walking free!”
Either way, I don’t know, you don’t know. Amanda may not know. Unless one of the parties involved writes a tell-all, we’ll never know.

anonymeParticipantStraying even farther, perhaps we should add MBTI types to the profile.
Independent, undecided, INTJ. For those of you familiar with the MBTI, “undecided” is a difficult stance for an INTJ. In this case, uncertainty is overruled by the demand for absolute evidence. Facts, please.
