RobJMember14 per rule means code or not breathing. Lots of units called out for this one though.
June 12, 2012 at 4:02 am #760633
RobJMemberFire pit “explosion”. Two Burn vitims. Asking for BLS however so probably not bad.

star 55ParticipantBLS? sorry
June 12, 2012 at 4:04 am #760635
RobJMemberBasic Life Support. ALS is when it’s bad…
June 12, 2012 at 4:08 am #760636
JanSParticipantstar 55..BLS is Basic Life Support…ALS is Advanced Life Support. BLS can be even if they are seriously injured. I would think that burns are serious no matter what, but not life threatening…

hexghostMemberAccording to the scanner, two 20 year old males burned from a fuel canister. One with 10% of his body, 2nd degree, the other 20% 2nd degree.
Trauma doctor was being read this/reading it back to medic, not sure which.

JanSParticipanthmm…trying to start a fire with liquid fuel….what is wrong with that picture? Oh, squirt it again, that’ll get it going for sure…
I’m so sorry this happened. It won’t be fun for these guys for a while.Lesson learned, I’m sure. Hope they recover quickly.

JanSParticipantas TR said on the front page..however it happened, please remember that these are someone’s children, and that there are parents who have hurt children. This is not the forum, I think, for starting a political discourse on what you should or should not pay. They were injured, and they should be taken care of, whatever.
June 12, 2012 at 6:38 am #760640
singularnameParticipantJanS … I thought it might be relevant given the number of folks here who bring up the right to health care based on those who aren’t to blame for their conditions versus those who are. Whatever …
June 12, 2012 at 7:01 am #760641
JanSParticipantI’m gonna regret this…but which side are you on? Treat them and bill them? Give them charity care if their families don’t have insurance? Or deny them treatment if they don’t have insurance? Just curious…
my regrets are that this will focus away from those kids who got burned this evening for whatever reason..
June 12, 2012 at 7:02 am #760642
kootchmanMemberTwo twenty year olds? Someone has thought processing challenged adult children, God bless their poor little hearts, what were they thinking? These are children? They are 20 year old men, I hope they recover quickly.. you can’t shield people from the consequences of their decisions. Some dad forgot “man lessons” how to start a fire.

WSBKeymasterThey’re not 20. All five victims described by SFD as teens.
Sorry we were a few minutes later than our usual megarapid response on this one in the very beginning … but had details/photos before long, and thorough, non-sensational coverage as usual … the wrapup here also includes video of the SFD spokesperson’s 3 1/2-minute briefing:
Update: Bonfire ‘explosion’ at Alki sends 5 to hospital with burns
The question about health care is so offensive I’ve deleted it. Five **children** (I have a 16-year-old and they are **children**) are burned. Don’t even know if any of them is the one who introduced the “accelerant” into the situation or not; five kids are hurt. Have some decency. WSB has a national reputation as a site that manages to have some, because we have rules and some great participants who generally honor them. But in some cases it’s impossible to write a rule that would cover every instance of all-out offensiveness. My heart hurts for whichever unfortunate parent/s/guardians/relatives are sitting at bedsides in Harborview, but I’m glad that no one’s burns were reported to be life-threatening.

pattileaParticipantWe are so lucky to have an awesome burn unit at Harborview medical center! My husband was badly burned in Tacoma, the Tacoma General hospital did not know how to treat the burns properly. He ended up here in Seattle.

EarthMamaParticipantWBS: Your up to the moment reporting, and follow, up is impeccable; equally important, and at times- more importantly, is the close monitoring of member comments.
Kind thanks, and abundant admiration, for the outstanding service you provide to our community. WSB is another reason to be proud to call West Seattle “Home”.
