    NewResident..

if you can’t link the article. then simply tell us where to find it.

i would love to read an article that equates Obama’s plan… and McCain’s current plan to LBJ.. and his lack of an end game in Viet Nam.

wait.. this lack of an end game thing sort of makes me think of the war in Iraq…. Jo scratches her head…. yup, no end game:(

now i am even more curious about this article. i’d love to know what they had to say about that. something so glaringly obvious, they must have mentioned it.

I believe they shot the movie, “Born to be Wild” in Mr. Ursinos class and the gymnasium? but the Gym was the only one to make the cut. However, I don’t know if you went there after 1994 they unplugged Mr.Ursinos lab fridge and the smell of rotting shrimp plauge his room for at least the next two years. Yuck!

We just received confirmation that we won’t be staying in our current rental past the end of september, so we are actively looking for a rental… and we might be willing to move as early as the first week in september.

We need 2+ bedrooms.. and a securely fenced yard for our dogs. And we also need to be close to a bus line.

We would prefer 2 bathrooms.. but we can live with one. We don’t want to pay more than 2 thousand… and don’t really want to pay that if we don’t have to:)

and would really love to have a sunny location to move all my potted herbs and veggies to… otherwise we will be adopting out potted plants:(

we want to stay in West Seattle if we can.. so please keep an eye out for us for a rental…

I check housing maps every day and am checking several other rental outlets.. it’s those homes with signs posted in the window that i really need help finding.

thanks… joanne , dale, yuki and mochi

Thanks, JT — I may get that article tattooed on my arm, rather than a simple peace sign and Iris. :-) Best summary I’ve seen!

The repugs prove, over and over, the contempt they have for the people of the United States. “Tell ’em anything — they won’t look it up, so they’ll never known any better.”

I have much more faith in people than that; ergo, I must be an elitist snob. What am I missing here? Oh, yeah — the point.

For another view of the inheritance tax, from someone who might have a clew about what it means, read this: http://www.commondreams.org/views06/1226-25.htm Yup, it’s that Bill Gates (the father of that other Bill Gates.)

My check engine light just came on in my 04′ Hyundai Santa Fe. I was wondering if their was a local shop that can check it out for me so I don’t have to drive up to Shoreline and pay an arm and leg ($92 for an hour just to find out what the problem is and $1100 for the 60,000 service)

Thanks for sharing your photos, I especially like the one of the clown. I love the Hi-Yu parade, it just adds to the warm small town feel we have in West Seattle. West Seattle is the only Seattle neighborhood to still have a float to enter into regional parades and the Torchlight Parade, which I think is really sad. I hear that our Hi-Yu float is in dire need of a new engine and will have to be towed through the Torchlight Parade on Saturday (better than breaking down and holding up the parade like last year). I hope we’ll come together as a community to Save the Float!

Here you go nfof et al. We have no measurements, which is our style for experimentations like this. You will surely find your own proportions. Start out with mayo (not Miracle Whip, yuchh!) and seasoned rice vinegar. SRV is rice vinegar with sugar in it already. Stir that together to the consistency that you want your dressing. Add a dash of table mustard (not dijon or anything too froo-froo) and a dash of toasted sesame oil. Whisk that together and taste. Adjust the taste with small pinches of sugar and if you think it needs it, salt; but I doubt it will. Sometimes the Jefferson Square teriyaki joint has black sesame seeds sprinkled into the dressing. These are optional and mostly for eye appeal. Play around with it and adjust as you see fit.

Let me know how this compares for you!

Yummy Teriyaki, located at the Alaska Junction, has the best tasting salad dressing ever!!!!

I have been hands-free for almost two years with the same bluetooth headset. Now that I have a new phone, it doesn’t seem to work the same- or at all sometimes. That, and I left it in the car over a hot weekend and the earpiece melted. Yuck. I would like to get the hands-free bluetooth that you clip to the visor, but it’s expensive and I don’t know anyone who has tried one. Anyone have any reviews?

    DELICIOUS!

I made a trip to White Center for this after snooping around the forum for a while, and wasn’t disappointed! I got the blueberry cinnamon (YUM) and my boyfriend got the thai tea – which tastes exactly like thai tea.

The waffle cones were rolled in front of us, which was also a PLUS. They were warm and chewy. If you haven’t visited them yet, do it this weekend! It’s just ice cream, yes, but it’s damn good :)

Check our front page story with video.

    Stephanie Cortes.

    https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=9015

(she’s in one of the clips after the jump; don’t miss the clip with the “assistant bandleader,” such a cutie)

Trivia, co-publisher Patrick remembers Stephanie as a fellow parent when Junior Member of the Team was in Lincoln Park Co-Op Preschool LOOOOONG ago!!

    She sings very well indeed.

As we mentioned in the story also, WS Big Band will play during the outdoor concert series at the Mount in August – 8/15. — TR

The West Seattle Big Band and their singer (I didn’t catch her name) sounded absolutely wonderful last night! Be watching for this again next year as this is an excellent (FREE) event the whole family will enjoy. Bring dinner and your dancing shoes (I saw some cool dance moves last night!)

Hi-Yu is a tradition we in West Seattle should truly treasure. Don’t forget to come out for the parade this Saturday and be sure to buy a button from one of the girls. It’s for a good cause!

My favorite thing about that particular drive-up is that it seems to run out of money on the weekends. I wait on line (yup, I’m from the east — that’s where we wait.) I get to the front — I press the damned buttons and it has no $. Especially on Sunday when the walk throughs for the farmers market get MY $ :-)

Another hooray for Full Tilt! My little dude and I popped over there today for vegan ice cream and it was AWESOME! Mexican Mocha, coconut based, YUM!! I love when ice cream folks are adventurous! Silas was more interested in putting nickels in the games, which he happily did for quite a while (he’s 2). The owners are awesome – it’s great that they are providing a hangout for kids in the area. Some Friday night if I can get the little dude to stay awake (or secure a babysitter) I definitely want to check out the music!

    We’ll be back!

Young’s!!!!!! The best breakfast around (a nice little secret that I’m reluctant to share). Family-owned business and always crowded for breakfast. You can get traditional breakfasts (4 egg omelets that overfill the plates and french toast to die for) OR you can get a more traditional chinese breakfast such as egg foo yung.

The staff is very friendly and always remember you after the first time. They are on 16th Ave SW near Cafe Rozella.

    Zenguy…

i think i need to go to the IGA… my yoga maker is being mailed so it will be a while before i start making my own greek style yogurt. that ice cream sounds yummy.

    Beachdrivegirl..

i would like the package to look different from the one i have been buying any time they change formula or size… if that means nothing more than noting “new” somewhere on the front.

and i would really like retailers to go back to pricing their inventory in a structured way… either shelf markers that are always there in a consistent spot or marking the product… or handing out scanners to every customer as they pass through the door…

my new rule is that if i have to work too hard to figure out how much it is.. i won’t buy it.

Off track but one of the posts above mentioned Greek yogurt. The new IGA downtown was offering samples of baklava ice cream made from the yogurt and all I can say is yum. I will be purchasing some soon.

lol Zenguy, My family is from West Seattle. I remember coming to watch the Hi-Yu parade every year when I was little and being terrified by the pirates, but also somewhat fascinated. I believe back then they were pretty drunk. They knew my grandfather pretty well and every year they’d grab one of my aunts or my mom and run down the street with her. It was so terrifying but also kind of neat.

Just a reminder about the Hiyu parade this weekend. Last year I heard parents actually complaining that the pirates were too noisy! The pirates are an important tradition to the Seafair and Hiyu experience. Like any other experience you are introducing to your child, explain to them ahead of time what to expect. This should be a fun experience for them (and for their parents!). Once you see them coming you can anticipate the ‘bang’ of the cannon by watching them load it up, you can make a game of covering your ears or just cover the child’s ears until the KABOOM is over. I know it seems like common sense but listening to people last year say they didn’t think things should be so loud….argh! Okay, I’ll step off my soap box.
