HA! This has annoyed me for years. I too have noticed it is worse during commute times.

7:30 am and you need to get to work? Yield on green does not apply apparently.

I think all those Harbor Ave/trying to get on the bridge drivers need to contact the city about adjusting the traffic light timing rather than taking things into their own hands and treating the intersection like a mid-western four way stop. “No you go ahead. No you. No, I insist.”

NO, I am not going to wave you through. I need to get to work too. And I’d rather not have to worry about getting into a fender bender on my way in.

Sorry if that sounded mean. I don’t hate you just because you’re coming down Harbor Ave trying to get on the bridge before I’ve had enough coffee to be nice. But seriously, someone call the city?

I haven’t owned a Volvo but I once had a car with a power-steering-fluid leak – there was a distinct screechy sound with the steering when fluid was low. Also, if power-steering fluid hasn’t changed much in recent years, it would be a telltale reddish color.

I’ll pay extra for better bus service – where can I sign up? Can I give an extra $100 a month and get a bus that goes directly to my neighborhood right after I get off work instead of five minutes before or a half hour after? BECAUSE I WOULD. It’d still be cheaper than parking downtown and paying for gas…not that I’d do those things, as I do not drive (and never have).

Oh, and for my money I also wouldn’t mind a way to get home from downtown after 7 pm that didn’t require two buses or waiting an entire hour.

I remember Mr. Kingen unfurling a humongous BUSH banner and planting himself and his fellow Republicans smack dab in front of the Dems one early election morning eight years ago on Fauntleroy before the WS bridge. With impunity. I do not go in to that restaurant. Before he bought it, it was a good union shop, but he put a stop to that right away. The restaurant is overrated. It’s a good thing the city will finally reclaim the public street end Saltys uses as a parking lot.

That whole intersection is a free-for-all and at commute time, all the worse. And let it be known that I am one of the asshats that won’t let someone merge when they try to be cute and cut down from Admiral. Everyone on Admiral and everyone on Avalon has been waiting their turn and it’s obvious what they’re doing. Now, pulling out of Java Bean or Luna Park, different story – I’m all for supporting their morning business – but…but I get childish pleasure out of holding my ground, so thank you.

So, i have a 2001 Volvo S60. Today, when pulling into my parking spot @ work i thought it sounded a bit funny. i didnt think anything of it. however, after driving home, i noticed the sound getting worse and it getting a bit harder to turn the wheel. so, i grabbed the fiance and made him go for a drive for me.. soon after, the bad noise went away, but the turning got worse. we believe the power steering went out. then when we got home we noticed liquid all over the drive way where my car had been parked…Neither one of us are that mechanical nor knows what it is like to have the power steering go out…does that sound like the right diagnosis? Does anyone know how much it costs for repair??? Thanks!

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps it lines up for a ways on Harbor and folks, out of desparation and frustration feel like they have to cheat death to make a left. If that’s the case, the city needs to step up with a solution.

CMP: I’ve actually been meaning to bring this issue to WSB for months now, but kept forgetting. This afternoon’s anger toward the jerk on Spokane just reminded me to post about my other WS driving peeve :-) My other one is that people rarely signal, but that’s a Seattle-wide problem! And to BobLoblaw and MargL, I have also looked at the signal from the other side to verify that there is nothing giving the drivers the impression that they have the right-of-way; there sure isn’t! Like you said, BL, there are signs specifically stating that traffic is to yield on solid green. Argh…

I have been checking bus schedules as i look at houses to rent since hubby commutes by bus.. and there are some pretty odd bus schedules out there.

for instance. from beach drive you can catch an express bus that takes you downtown in the morning if you time it right.

however, the evening version of the same express lets you off over a mile from where your picked it up in the morning.

what’s with that?

Thank gawd others have noticed. This is Bob Loblaw’s No. 1 WS pet peeve driving spot. I drive it each and every day and see this each and every day.

I thought I was in the wrong the first dozen times this happened. So I checked the “other side” and saw that, nope, right turners are in the right on green. In fact, there are TWO yield signs over on Harbor Ave.

I hope one of the Harbor Ave. drivers can weigh in on what gives them the impression it’s their right of way. I’m tired of getting driven over, honked at, flipped off, etc., just for trying to make a right turn.

Now, let’s talk about the folks who decide to start lining up for 1st Avenue a half-mile down the “bus only” lane…

Whoa, there seems to be someone on here that hates bad drivers more than me…didn’t think that was possible! I have no explanation for the moronic Harbor Ave drivers that think they have a protected turn on to the bridge. Whenever I ride the bus at a busier time, someone always seems to cut us off when we clearly have the right of way. One time my bus driver laid on the horn to let ’em have it and I thought it was one of the funniest things ever. She went on to honk at a few other people on the bridge that were driving like idiots which made my day.

…and yes, I understand the criticism of rising prices. It is important to remember that the rising costs of fuel, maintenance, etc. affects everyone and everything, including public entities.

If it were me, I’d check with Wine Outlet on 1st Ave SW of Safeco. I am sure they could offer some ideas and good prices (Prosecco from Italy being one option). Actual Champagne from France is pretty dear these days, and options like Prosecco and Spanish sparkling wines make cents.

A house on my street was bought by a professional flipper. Gutted for remodel and now sits abandoned for the last 8 months. Loving the 4 foot grass as well.

I’d like to start by saying, not all of David’s neighbors are upset, and this topic has my shorts in a knot.

I for one, value him, highly, as a neighbor, and a friend.

I live next door… no, not the one who put up the “greed” sign (I removed the sign, and threw it back where it came from… what’s next, burning crosses?).

There’s been many questions asked, that weren’t answered, and I’d like to address some of them;

Someone asked, if David informed us of his plans… yep, about a year before he started work, he knocked on my door and introduced himself, and we had a nice discussion about his plans.

Another question was asked, as to what kind of a neighbor he has been, and what benefit he’s brought to the neighborhood… He, and his Mother in law, who owned the lot he built on, are wonderful neighbors (his M-i-L has been my neighbor for a few years, and is one of the BEST neighbors I have ever had).

Throughout the project, many things were “done” for each of us on either side, including landscaping, tree trimming (I love not having to clean the gutters anymore), graveling the driveways, improvements to the horrendous drainage problems associated with not having storm drains, etc.

I had been out of work for a while, and without a truck, and his project provided me with a way to dig myself out of a hole, fix my truck and get back on my feet… I built those neighbor friendly fences (I absolutely LOVE the bamboo), did landscaping, and other tasks, eventually working into pretty much full time employment, and a way to afford to not be displaced by the rising cost of living/renting in the Delridge Community.

While David has been labeled “a developer”, that’s not the way I see him, or what we do, on a day to day basis.

If you were looking to hire a contractor, David is the kind of guy you hope to find, just the same, when I’m looking for one to work for, he’s the kind of boss I want.

To the subject of profit and greed… I’m pretty sure that this project put his Mother in law in a much better financial position, that will help her through her golden years… he’s definitely shared the wealth.

Personally, I love the way Delridge is developing… I’m all for cramming as many people into the established areas of the inner city as possible.

As an avid outdoorsman, I’d much rather see the outlying areas not turned into “giant scabs on the Universe” (my pet name for the Issaquah Highlands), and as a concerned world citizen would like to see suburban commuting and all the greenhouse emissions that go with that, become a thing of the past.

If you’re not part of the solution, you might be part of the problem… David isn’t part of the problem, I see him work very hard, every day, to provide logical, green, ethical, and efficient, solutions to peoples housing needs.

He’s very concerned that what we do (in the case of the major remodel we are now working on), fits the architectural style and intent of the house.

I like his house… I’m thrilled he and his beautiful little family are my neighbors… I’m just as happy, that he’s my boss… and I am blessed to be able to say, he’s my friend.

talking about gas, i never gave much thought to the safeway gas place but i went the other day put in my phone number and got the best discount ever!!! i paid like 3 dollars a gallon!!!! maybe im a little slow i thought safeway wasnt doing the gas discounts anymore….

Yes! What is up with this?! I’ve seen it happen several times. At first I thought the light was screwed up and they were getting the green arrow. Then the second time I had to slam on my brakes I thought, “Well these guys are just idiots.” I think there needs to be a sign put next to the light that says “Left Turn Yield on (greenball)” or something like that.

Just wondering if anyone has an explanation for why many drivers turning left onto the eastbound bridge feel that they have the right-of-way over drivers turning right from Avalon on a solid green light? I know that Harbor Ave. does get a green left turn arrow when Avalon’s light is red, so are drivers just confused? Do they not understand the difference between a green turn arrow (turn freely) and a solid green light (YIELD to drivers going straight or turning right)? I have witnessed so many near-accidents at this intersection, and they have all been caused by a driver attempting to turn left across oncoming traffic. One morning I was on the bus and everyone got jostled pretty hard when the driver had to slam his brakes for one of these idiots. Anyone care to share their own experiences or offer an explanation? I’m truly baffled. :-)
