I wonder what would happen if the geese started attacking off leash dogs at Lincoln Park?

    Reader photo was included here:

5 things for the rest of your West Seattle Tuesday, + 3 geese

I have never heard a story about one person “placing” the geese. Following is the story that was told during a triple-digit comment thread about a dog attacking one of the geese in 2012:

Lincoln Park ‘resident goose’ attacked by dog, readers report

All I know firsthand is that white goose/geese have been there at least 15 years or so. My kid and I would see them down at Cove Park (reopening soon!!!!) during walks down the hill in his toddler days. Could have been around long before that, but it’s the clearest memory I have.

If Wakeflood or anyone else has any idea how to reach the person he mentioned (from Anacortes? why here, then?), that certainly would be a story of interest. – TR

Some time ago I consulted with a rep from SDOT about speed bumps on 35th south of Rox. Beach Drive came up in the conversation, and I’m pretty sure I was told that they’d been installed at one point – and then removed. Apparently they make a lot of noise, so that’s something to consider. I’m not making a judgement either way, just reporting what I was told.

Well, placing a major stop that impacts as stated:

“with the frequency of RR-C and that turn it has to make from Cal to Faunt and then try to stop at the Zeek’s zone while getting its rear end out…”

then realizing they might need to install a drop-off zone up the road to alleviate a bit of the mess caused by the first ill-placed stop, may seem like the result of fine working brains to you, but we can agree to disagree. Won’t even go into the snarl created close the same corner by the bump-out stop on Calif. north of the intersection. Perhaps those brilliant brains will decide to put a stop in front of Thriftway to alleviate that bunching, so even more people can run across the intersection in both directions against the lights and in gridlocked traffic to try and catch their buses.

Please install speed bumps as soon as possible.”

No need for originality for this purpose. Feel free to use my text. The important thing is to write and call early and often!

wake, if you haven’t done so already, you might want to drop a quick line to TR, to let her know this backstory. There was an article and pic of the three geese a couple weeks or so ago.

I would guess that WSB might post a quick update, when time permits.

MIWS – I think your theory about bunching is correct, with the frequency of RR-C and that turn it has to make from Cal to Faunt and then try to stop at the Zeek’s zone while getting its rear end out of traffic. Since RR-C also goes to the ferry dock, it makes sense that the other zone is drop-off only.

The other reason the mystery zone is located where it is is to make sure WB vehicles rounding the curve at 45 mph to make a ferry have plenty of time to see the bus before they hit it.

TanDL – the brains at Metro work fine; they just can’t make everyone happy, given the complexity of the operating environment.

p.s. I’ve been ‘racking’ my brain instead of ‘wracking’ it; that may explain a few things…

I have a truckload of dirt and some old sod from my yard that I need to get rid of. I tried putting an ad on Craigslist but there was no response. I need it gone by the weekend, any ideas where to take it?

I think it was on the home page a couple days before my original posting last week. They have raised $39,000 of the $50,000 they are asking for. That would cover the editing of the film. But with $75,000, they could use it for composition of an original score, sound mix and color correction. Today has been a huge day in terms of fundraising – let’s keep it going!

Zook & Oleson Gardening estan contratando maintenance gardeners.

Experience as a landscaper is not necessary, we can train – but you must speak Spanish. (English is nice but not required.)

Pay starts at $11.50/hr, with prompt raises for demonstrated experience. The position is full time – well, more than full time, really, as we are very busy and generally work 10 hour days. If you need the day off work, that’s usually okay, but if you come in you’ll need to stay until we’re done, usually about 6pm.

We start in West Seattle at 7:30am. You will need to bring your lunch already packed. We drive company trucks to the clients, so your own vehicle or drivers license is not required. The work will initially include the basic tools of lawn care (mowers, edgers and blowers) but would eventually evolve into plant care, container work and fine pruning.

After 90 days, you accrue 6 paid sick days a year, per Seattle city law. All federal holidays except Columbus Day are paid days off (usually that’s 9 a year.) Overtime is paid at time and half, and we are always in overtime. (So a 50 hour work week is normal, but pays 55 hours.) The work is very physical and you must be able to lift 50 lbs.

We work year round with no layoffs. We don’t work Saturdays or Sundays. We’re not looking for a part timer or someone just for the summer – ideally you will dive in and be part of our close-knit crew, every day, for years to come.

We have been around 15 years. We love to work where we live (in West Seattle) but you will also get see some of the great estates of Capitol Hill, Hunts Point, and Medina. We have great employees and wonderful clients, and very little turnover in either. Please call Ben at (206) 595.2793 to discuss, or email ben@zaogardening.com.

    Hasta hablamos, muchas gracias!

What is the process for requesting speed bumps along this very busy, and sometimes dangerous, street because of the speeding cars. Any input would be appreciated.

For those who are opposed to mountain bike trails in Seattle Parks, I highly, highly suggest you visit a park that allows biking in a nearby area and judge for yourself. I’ve been to several. These parks are clean, well cared for, safe, and full of children and families recreating.

    Here are a couple samples:

    http://www.kingcounty.gov/recreation/parks/trails/backcountry/grandridge.aspx

    http://www.kingcounty.gov/recreation/parks/trails/backcountry/bigfinn.aspx

Please understand that many children and families in Seattle simply do not have the time and money to drive to Issaquah in a car to enjoy these opportunities. Seattle would be a much better city in my opinion if families had access to local mountain biking trails within a reasonable distance of their house.

If you have the chance to check out one of these parks please report back and let me know your thoughts.

Thank you Ace. You are correct. Instead of saying there are “no opportunities” for mountain biking in the city I should have stated there is “one opportunity” for mountain biking in the city. The one current opportunity is approximately one or two acres and is located underneath a freeway.

My position is the same, though. I’d like to see that change.

All children, rich and poor, should have a place to ride a mountain bike within a one hour bike ride from their house. This is a wonderful and healthy activity.

I support mountain bike trails in Seattle City Parks. This is a safe, healthy, and fun activity.

Currently there are no opportunities for children and adults to go mountain biking in the city of Seattle. I’d like to see that change.

Of course the trails would be set up in a thoughtful manner so that we could all enjoy the parks.

So maybe this has already been posted but if not, some really great news for fans of the geese at Lincoln Park.

The kind man who put them there years ago brought a gentleman suitor to join them. He’s bigger than the two sisters and his name is Sam.

When the man comes down to visit every week or so, they honk up a storm when they see him coming! He feeds them romaine lettuce by hand and they look so happy!

Sam has traveled from up near Anacortes? if I remember correctly. I think he’s around 3yrs. old.

Let’s hope they continue to enjoy a long, happy and healthy, reasonably unfettered life.

My husband and I were walking at Brace Point and we noticed approximately 2 dozen small crab that were washed up dead. They were not molt [saw a few bigger of those] They were about 1 to 2 inches across. We have never seen this many before and wonder what might be causing this. Was surprised that the sea gulls were not after them too.

There are several excellent Child Therapists in the West Seattle area. Therapists in West Seattle are pretty well connected. Below are links to names of child therapists I can vouch for personally.

Hi happy hour, I wish you luck in finding the person who gave you CPR and the rest of your recovery.

I’m not sure which Rehab you are in but they should have a staff social worker that can work on housing with you. Also, if you are low income and have on going care needs to consider a state Medicaid application if you have not already done so. This may help you get COPES in the home for care or placement in an assisted living if you are needing that level of on going care…
