Last summer it was not able to get above the temp of 101. Paneling on outside is old as the tub is 18 years old. It is a 2001 Sundance Cameo. Easy access to the tub from the back yard to a pick up area that a truck can back up to for removal. Newer cover and supplies available as well.

Well I’m not saying it’s right. Or fair. But I don’t mind the extra property taxes because my family is getting the bargain of a lifetime. Mrs. and I are in our prime earning years. We’re making good money and paying zero state income tax. The extra $1,000 or so in property taxes is nothing compared to what we’d be paying in state income tax if we were in Oregon or California or one of the other 43 states with an income tax.

Now… if we moved to Burien or Tukwila we’d escape both the income tax and the high(ish) Seattle property taxes. But I can’t take the commute. So we’ll stay put in West Seattle.

I possibly lost my keys there. There were two on a key ring that looks like a bicycle. One key has red, white and blue.

“PS…I’m a 55 yr old man and fireworks have been going off as far back as I can remember, do I like them, no, do they keep me awake at night, yes sometimes but they’ll probably keep going off until the day I leave this earth”

Seems like a very defeated attitude. Why? I don’t understand that. Public nuisances that a lot of people vocally dislike and want to end can be stopped. If 1 house on a block throws loud ragers every night, the police can step in with fines to address the problem. The same can be done with fireworks.

“so I can either ignore them or let my inner sole dwell on them and turn into a grumpy old man, what do you think?”

There’s a third option, work to get real enforcement of the issue. SPD could make a serious dent in their operating budget for the year in just two nights by ticketing anyone they see lighting anything bigger than sparklers. Set off a role of black-cats? That’s $5K. Set off mortar shells? That’s $5K for each round.

Taking a no-holds-barred approach for just one year would drive so much news everyone would know about it and maybe, just maybe, they’d drive or catch a bus south for the the 1-3 miles to WC/Burien to set them off instead. You know, where it’s actually legal? Here in my neighborhood during New Year’s the idiots across the street were setting off larger rockets (not penny-bottle rockets but not mortars) AT cars. SPD didn’t do anything about it even though I said I had video of them doing it repeatedly. That’s offensive. It shouldn’t take a serious accident before this changes but it’s only a matter of time before one of these tools sets a forest fire, or causes a car accident, or physically injures someone. Why is that an acceptable risk?

“My worry is that once an income tax is started it will go up, up, up, and municipalities and state agencies will still charge or pass new taxes further burdening everyone.”

This is exactly why we will never improve our tax system. Even when voters have a chance to move toward a fairer, more progressive tax system the defeatist attitude prevails. Just a couple of years ago there was an initiative that would have levied a small income tax on the most wealthy corporations and individuals in the state (I don’t remember the initiative number, you could look it up). It would have been enough to completely cover the costs of a state sponsored healthcare program and only affect a tiny portion of the populace. And it was something we all got to vote on, not something cooked up by legislators. Result? Not passed. Because “once they start an income tax…”

So, always a good topic for complaining, but no stomach, even among voters much less legislators, to do even the slightest thing to alter one of the most unfair and regressive tax systems among the 50 states.

Hey, susieq…those are called “building bricks” to help your search, and unfortunately are fairly hard to find unless you’re buying a LOT. I would suggest checking with Second Use or other architecture recycling places. Funny how brick has fallen so out of fashion. Concrete block is much more readily available, but has it’s obvious limitations. Cheaper, though, and can be stained for aesthetics. Good luck.

At some point as I was walking along Alki yesterday, the stone fell out of my ring. It’s small (maybe 3mm long), rectangular cut, and clear light green. It’s not valuable, just an inexpensive peridot, but has symbolic value and I’d love to get it back. I know the chances of someone spotting a stone that tiny are pretty small, but I’m hoping folks can keep a lookout for it. Thanks much.

I spent a lot of time looking for a new place after over 15 yrs in WS and from my experience you won’t find much at that price there. If you’re open to other areas, you’ll get a much nice home with less traffic problems in Burien. For many people, Burien is just 1st Ave south and unappealing businesses along that road. There are a lot of nice residential areas and a lot calmer than what WS has become.

Speaking as a former instructor (at AKT no less) and for some of the local clubs I can say that it is emphasized that all boaters must adhere to the rules of the road. That said, not all people take classes and rental businesses don’t spend hours educating the renters. Like it or not, educated boaters will have to dodge uneducated and that goes for powerboats and PWCs as well.

TSurly. Thank’s for knowing and following the law. Wouldn’t have to rant if everyone else did the same. Actually, I’m a boater and I, and many of my boater friends have had close calls with SUP’s and kayaks who did NOT have the right of way but felt they didn’t have to change course to avoid a close encounter(no, I’ve never hit one). One of my friends did challenge a SUP rider on Lake Union who said the place that rented him the board said “don’t worry-the other boater’s will get out of your way”. A friend of mine work’s for Kenmore Air. They get SEVERAL call’s every summer from irate paddlers demanding to know why the floatplanes taking off and landing on Lake Union don’t stay out of THEIR way.

dobro: Democrats are too nice, much too nice. Biggest problem with Democrats. We had an effective national voice in Al Franken but a woman’s story of how he kissed her in a play when he was 20-something is enough for him to step down. Republicans want power and won’t let ethics get in the way. Dems fall short of perfection and quit.

PS…I’m a 55 yr old man and fireworks have been going off as far back as I can remember, do I like them, no, do they keep me awake at night, yes sometimes but they’ll probably keep going off until the day I leave this earth so I can either ignore them or let my inner sole dwell on them and turn into a grumpy old man, what do you think?

“Passive Aggressive Seattle loses to Trotskyite based Social Activism and Revolution.”

Wow, one “socialist” member out of a 9 person council and the sky is falling! Rest assured, there are at least 6 solid corporate Amazon/Boeing toadies and a couple of squishy middle grounders on the council.

“I am starting to see KILL BEZOS graffiti in many places.”

And Sawant gets the blame for that? Did you see her graffiti-ing? Or is that just an opinion?

“Because of her and some others in the council we are losing experienced members of our police force”

Any links to any quotes of police officers leaving because of her?

“I fear that the wolf in sheep’s clothing is ready to pounce and there are some Democrats who are just too nice to fight on her level.”

That’s sweet that you think Democrats are so nice. A lot of Repubs think Dems are evil libtards that want to send all Trump supporters to Gitmo.
