I’ve searched extensively online and there is little real evidence that cash transactions are likely to transmit Covid. The connection has more to do with the interpersonal transaction than it does the cash itself. The problem is mainly one of perception, sort of like the ‘need’ for toilet seat covers. Many businesses have developed clever ways of handling cash, such as requiring it to be placed in a can with no hand-to-hand contact. Yes, money has always been filthy, but Covid is unlikely to cause greater risk than usual. Avoid it if you choose; that will make the financial institutions raking in bank fees right now very happy. It should also be noted that many people, especially those with lower incomes, the elderly, POC, etc., do not (or cannot) use cards, making survival in these difficult times even more stressful.

I would be concerned about a business that only accepts cash. They may be avoiding taxes
or only reporting a portion of sales. Like a place I wont name in the West seattle Junction who was not reporting some cash sales a few years back.

I have a 15’x 10.5’ room for rent near Roxbury and 21st Ave . The room is in the lower basement and has a private entrance and private 3/4 bathroom with shared kitchen and living area upstairs. The house has a fenced front and back yard with enclosed parking. Includes communal gardening space. House location is convenient for commuting even with west Seattle bridge closed. The room is unfurnished and is available September 1st. Rent is $900 plus utilities. Utilities run $150-200. We will need to sign a 6 or 12 month lease with the landlord and a $900 deposit is due upon moving in.

A little bit about myself, I am 35 year old Sagittarius, full time engineer. I work the majority of the time from home with a couple days in office weekly. I enjoy the outdoors and being active. I love collecting rocks and exploring in my van. I standup paddle board, skateboard, slack line, snowboard, bike, and enjoy riding my motorcycle. I am all for wearing a mask and practicing social distancing to help fight COVID.

I am looking for a girl/guy who is clean, career oriented roommate and motivated but still knows how to relax and chill. I am looking for someone who shares similar interests. I also want someone who is protecting themselves against COVID through mask wearing and reducing exposure to others. Message me if interested.

Two, safe bubbling families are looking for a nanny/remote learning facilitator for 2 – 2nd graders and 2 – 7th graders at the same schools. Looking for someone to work between our two homes (one mile apart) in West Seattle. 30 hours/week, $25/hour.

About the parents: full-time working parents, with some work from home and some in the office. We are laid back but serious about safety.
About the kids: A pair of brothers and a pair of sisters, who have known each other since kindergarten (and for the younger set, since they were 1!) They are fun, bright kids, and while they miss their friends, they have adapted well to online learning.

About you: Fun, engaging, and want to bring creative activities outside remote learning. You’re a non-smoker, reliable transportation, and you like dogs (one dog at each home). Daily start/end times are flexible.

We are a West Seattle family searching for an experienced and reliable nanny for our 2 children, ages 6 and 9, with responsibilities including overseeing online school, assisting with any homework and finding fun offline activities for the kids after the official school hours have ended. Some transportation to and from sports activities will also be required.

The role will be approximately 40 hours a week with some variation to the exact hours per day based on sports activities and our work schedules.

We have been careful about our interactions with others during COVID and would like to have a nanny with a similar mindset.

    Schedule: ~7:30am-5:00pm
    Days: M-F
    Kids: 6 & 9
    Location: Seaview
    Pay: $23/hour
    Background check: Required
Paid Holidays: 2 weeks vacation + major holidays

We are scheduling FaceTime/Zoom interviews for qualified candidates and look forward to hearing from you!

ALL businesses should ALWAY’s protect their employees and customers. As we’ve learned more from MEDICAL expert’s cash is not being called out as a safety issue. That is the crux of my “rant”I don’t believe paying with cash is the difference between safe or sick people. Now,if any business want to change the way they do business and be card only here on out I FULLY SUPPORT THEM. That is their right. But if they think by going cashless it will keep employees and customers free from covid(or any other virus) i’d love to see the science. My LAST question. Once we have a vaccine how many businesses will continue with what they’re doing now and how many will go back to the “good old day’s” and not continue with the covid protocals??. PEACE OUT

We are seeking a flexible, super patient, and loving nanny! Kids are 4 & 8 and we are looking for 35 hours a week care M-F from 8am-3pm. Aside from being flexible, super patient, and loving, we would love someone who is able to prepare snacks/meals, and tidy up. 8 year old is enrolled in SPS. We strive to be as responsible about Covid as possible, and would like to match with a caregiver who is similar. We are 6 blocks from the heart of the Alaska Junction. There is a big sign at the front door, that can’t be missed, that says they don’t take cash, only cards. I’ve been to True Value twice in the past two weeks and both times they have cleaned the card reader as I approached to pay.

Regarding cash and COVID-19 – even without the pandemic, cash is full of germs.

You can research this on Google, but most dollar bills are covered in 3,000 types of bacteria.

Either way, with your credit card, you have control of keeping it clean after use.

It’s pretty hard to have no contact cash-exchange. The CDC doesn’t seem to instruct against the use of cash explicitly but does warn against close contact, including cash-handling.

Actually, I’ve only encountered 1 other business that’s card only. Everywhere else I shop is fine taking cash. But what has the virus got to do with this? Haven’t heard any statements from state, county, city health experts that touching money spreads the virus Would think they would say something if it did. And I would be fine not using if it was bad. Also, must note that machines aren’t perfect. I’ve had machines not work when I was going to pay with a card. So what’s T V going to do if the system is down? Are they going to lock there door’s and not let anybody in until their card reader is working?
