This Sunday, October 27 at 11:30 am6115 SW Hinds
https://www.alkiucc.orgJoin us for a clear, concise presentation on the four major Washington State Initiatives on the November 5 ballot … and the real-life impact of their potential passage.
Science Educator/Teacher Joe A presents information on # 2066 and # 2117 in a talk titled “Washington Ballot Initiatives that Could Impact Climate Change Policy.”
• Initiative 2066 “would repeal or prohibit certain laws and regulations that discourage natural gas use, and/or promote electrification, and require certain utilities and local governments to provide natural gas to eligible customers. Should this measure be enacted into law?”
• If approved, Initiative 2117 would prohibit state agencies from implementing cap-and-invest carbon emissions programs.
Joe notes: “The question of whether these initiatives should be approved or disapproved by the voter cannot be answered without an assessment of the real consequences of a Yes vote. The purpose of my presentation will be to discuss the ramifications of the approval of such measures.”
Nurse Educator/AAUW-WA Emily H leads a session on:
• Initiative 2124, which would introduce an Opt-Out option to The WA Cares Fund, a first-in-the-nation program created by the state legislature in 2019.
Emily will cover the gender equity issue, why Opt-In won’t work and how The Fund fills a critical gap in home care.
• Initiative 2109 would repeal Washington’s Capital Gains Excise Tax, a key facet of the state’s equitable tax code structure. Repealing the tax, which funds the state’s Education Legacy Trust Account, would have significant economic impact and exacerbate the gender wealth gap.
