Fri, Aug 4 @ 7:00 pm at Lincoln Park
Sun, Aug 6 @ 3:00 pm at Lincoln Park
GreenStage, Seattle’s Shakespeare in the Park Company, will offer four plays this summer during its 29th year of performing free Shakespeare in Seattle-area parks. The calendar includes full-cast versions of Richard II, directed by Susannah Rose Woods, and of The Comedy of Errors, directed by David Gassner.
In addition, GreenStage will stage two “Backyard Bard” shows; abridged versions of plays running about an hour and using the same for actors in each for all roles. Hamlet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be directed by Erin Day.
King Richard II has a short and troubled reign; he’s often indecisive and at other times abrupt and arbitrary, not always good ways to win friends and allies. His clumsy handling of a dispute between two Dukes, one his cousin, splits the kingdom and sets Richard on the path to downfall. It’s the first part of a tetralogy following Richard II and his immediate successors, Henry IV and Henry V.
