West Seattle
Longtime art and environmental organization Nature Consortium will return for a special engagement community event on Saturday, April 19 at Pigeon Point Park, where it hosted music, art, and environmental restoration programming for more than a decade.
Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association (DNDA) is joining with Nature Consortium founder Nancy Whitlock for this Earth Day event, which will feature forest restoration work, eco-arts activities, and performances from Nature Consortium musician Benson Smith and others.
The event will run from 10 a to 1 p on Saturday, April 19 at Pigeon Point Park in the West Duwamish Greenbelt, Seattle’s largest remaining forest.
This year is the 20 th anniversary of the Green Seattle Partnership. The milestone has prompted reflection on all that has been accomplished by tens of thousands of volunteers over the decades, and it felt like a natural occasion to highlight all that was accomplished under the Nature Consortium banner.
Whitlock founded Nature Consortium in 1998 as a grassroots, community-based
organization whose mission was to connect people, arts and nature. Nature
Consortium organized the annual Arts in Nature Festival at Camp Long, and was a
founding member of the Green Seattle Partnership citywide forest restoration
program. In 2016, Nature Consortium merged into DNDA, which has continued its
forest restoration, eco-arts, and other programs. DNDA’s Art Program Director
Yeggy Michael and Environmental Programs Director Caroline Borsenik both
began their careers as Nature Consortium employees.“Nature Consortium and DNDA have such a long, shared history of art and nature
work in Delridge and around West Seattle,” Borsenik said. “It is special to be able to
celebrate that history together for Earth Day.”In addition to restoration and art activities, DNDA is partnering with West Duwamish
Greenbelt Trails, who will be leading a guided hike into the greenbelt for those who
want to explore beyond Pigeon Point Park.ACTION
