At the Southwest Branch Library: Learn about butterflies and citizen science projects!

Plant a butterfly garden using native seeds, make a collage with real butterfly wings, examine wings with light boxes and magnifiers, make and fly a paper butterfly in a wind tunnel, and explore symmetry in nature. Youth will also learn how to participate in citizen science initiatives such as the Western Monarch Milkweed Mapper, the International Monarch Monitoring Blitz (July 28-August 5), and the Cascades Butterfly Project. Youth will take home their gardens, collages, and citizen science materials. Butterfly wings are courtesy of the Pacific Science Center – all butterflies died naturally. For all ages.

This program is part of this year’s Summer of Learning program Explore Your World!, which encourages reading and activities around science, technology, technology, arts and math. We are offering over 250 free youth programs throughout the city this summer. You can pick up a Summer Action Guide at any Library location beginning June 24th.

Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required.

The 2019 Summer of Learning program, Explore Your World!, is funded by generous support from The Seattle Public Library Foundation.

Space is limited at library events. Please come early to make sure you get a seat. Due to the fire code, we can’t exceed the maximum capacity for our rooms.
