Salon crash update: Saved by a quirk of fate

thrushopwindow.jpg

Followup on this morning’s crash at Jan’s Salon south of Morgan Junction (earlier WSB coverage here): We dropped by to talk with Jan earlier this afternoon; she is still trying to sort things out and expects to be closed at least a few days (photo above shows some of the damage, through the shop window). She was not insured – she said she was “between insurers.” She also said it was a quirk of fate that she wasn’t in the salon when this happened – she originally had a 9 am appointment scheduled today, but the client canceled, otherwise she would have been in the salon at the time of the crash. (The truck, shown in the photos from our earlier coverage, was towed after a couple hours; we wound up two cars behind the tow truck as it rattled past our corner, heading southeast.) Jan says she’s been in business at this location (California & Frontenac) for 14 years.

Well, sorry to hear there’s no insurance –
But, it is certainly good to hear she wasn’t hurt –

    Good luck Jan!

Well, in this case the driver’s auto insurance should kick in to cover her (but it will probably take time and lawyers to straighten it out.) And of course that assumes the driver had insurance. Glad no one was hurt, though.

yes, the auto insurance will take care of the damage to the building. In my former life I handled a lot of claims like this. Let’s just hope he has insurance with sufficient liability limits! If he has decent insurance there should be no need to get lawyers involved…unless there is a crafty adjuster who uses the old “building jumped right out in front of him” excuse… ;)

He does not have insurance. This is bad all around for both parties.

WTF??! Driving around with no insurance and a kid in the car. I hope she sues him!

I’m guessing that a lawsuit against a driver with no insurance will not go very far. Its additionally troubling to read that a business is inbetween insurance. With customers in and out daily there are lots of opportunities for mishaps. I agree, bad day all around.
I hope we can keep this one out of the courts. It seems like a lose-lose situation.

Yikes! Jan’s a wonderful person, but is a single mom and isn’t in the best position to handle a loss like this. Boy, I hope she can get her business back up & running quickly.

Sorry, comment time is over.
