4 West Seattle restaurants in “Dine for Darfur” on Tuesday

Relief efforts in Darfur get 25% of the proceeds from dozens of restaurants in the Northwest this Tuesday. This page has the full list, which includes the West Seattle establishments Endolyne Joe’s in Fauntleroy, Blackbird and Mission in the Admiral District, and Talarico’s (21-up only) in The Junction. (While checking the restaurants’ individual websites, linked here to their names, we also noted another benefit coming up at Endolyne Joe’s — a Denny Middle School music fundraiser March 25, promising live performances by the school’s band and chorus; we featured Denny’s midwinter-break music camp in this recent video-enhanced feature.)

Thanks so much for posting this WSB! I work for the organization this is benefiting and I live in West Seattle, so I’m very excited that some great WS restaurants are participating.

There are several bars and coffee shops in Seattle taking part as well, so you can make your morning coffee, your mid-afternoon snack and your post-work pint for Darfur too, not just your dinner!

Doesn’t it seem a bit ironic to dine for Darfur? Or any other starving nation for that matter? Why not just give the $50 you spend on the meal directly to an organization that helps, rather than having that business give a much smaller %. I’m just curious.

Good question tt, and obviously people should give charitable contributions in whatever way feels right for them. This event was started last year, solely on the initiative of Chow Foods, which wanted to do something to increase awareness of the situation in Darfur and mobilize community and peer restaurant support for the issue. It works out well for the participating restaurants because Tuesday is traditionally the slowest night of the week, and it allows people to do something they might do anyway- go out for a coffee or a meal at a local establishment- and still give money to a deserving cause.

Just a quick heads up, Talarico’s is actually a bar so if you and your family want pizza from there, you’re going to have to get it to go.

Good point; I tend to assume most people know that by now (we discussed it extensively when they first opened) but of course there are plenty of newcomers. I’ll add a “21/over” caveat to the copy.
