Reader report: Rocks thrown at Admiral-area cars

Just out of the inbox from Meredith:

Just seen at Grayson & Belvidere (just north of Admiral): Three police cars with one teen in custody (Caucasian, about 14-years-old). Chased down after caught throwing rocks at cars. Officer says this kid, plus two others have been reported in 20-30 incidents along the Admiral Way corridor (37th – 41st). Two kids still at large, reportedly around 14- to 15-years-old, one Hispanic, one with longish red hair. PLEASE alert drivers for their own safety, and ask residents to keep an eye out for these kids. Their actions could case an accident, perhaps a death for one of those b*****ds speeding up the hill. Kids are also suspect in the knifing of a neighbor’s tires, theft from vehicles in the area, and rocks thrown thru home windows.

The area and description are similar to the 1/11/08 reader report we published on the Crime Watch page, involving a brick thrown through a front door, after three teenage boys were seen “cruising” the area.

I wonder, might these be the same juveniles WSB noted on January 18 as having been seen leaving the Admiral Parking Garage after cars in there were trashed?

Excellent question. We will be looking forward to checking with the Southwest Precinct in the morning when tonight’s developments are over and we can get something of an overview.

is any of this during school hours? Just curious…I’ve noticed a few students hanging in the alley behind my bldg. on occasion…all about that age…and always during school hours. It’s been when I was with a client, but…I will call the school if I see them again, and am available. Glad they caught this kid…I hope he doesn’t just get sent back ito the world.

I posted the report on January 11th. Late this afternoon (after school hours) my dog alerted to unusual noises. A neighbor was also on the alert, paying attention to his neighbors, and with his fast tracking, our coordinated efforts, and a 911 call, SPD was able to make an arrest. These were the same individuals as previously reported and were identified. The WSB is invaluable for sharing information and getting it out quickly. Thanks to all! Good neighbors and good dogs make good friends.

My wife’s car was hit by a rock yesterday on her way home from work in the evening at Grayson and Admiral Way as reported by Meredith. It frightened her and put a big dent in the car. I hope they are able to find the rest of this gang and bring them to justice.

I hope these teens get stuck paying for the repair bills to these cars. Hopefully that would teach them a lesson. What punks!

A couple weeks ago around evening rushhour, as I was coming up Admiral and just past the viewpoint, a couple kids roughly fitting this description were loitering in the parking strip very close to the street. I slowed down because they appeared as if they might step into the street. As I drove by one of the kids appeared to attempt to kick my car as I drove by, and as I looked in my rear view he had stepped briefly into the street as I drove by and was turned back looking at my car. I didn’t stop, but also didn’t know what to do about this so didn’t report it. Possibly connected?

Seems at least one of the kids may live in the neighborhood around 37th & Admiral. Since the police didn’t come back by last night for the additional info (as known by one of our more upstanding teen neighbors), I hope that Kid A, the one that was caught, shared the names of Kid B and Kid C with law enforcement so they can all share the pain (or blame) together.

m….just pay the repair bills? How about a little community service, too. Obviously, they have too much time on their hands, and not enough parenting…just MHO :)

  • m February 1, 2008 (12:17 pm)

well, they should get stuck with many hours of community service as well. I’m sure they’d only get one or the other though. If they have to pay the bills, then they’d have to get a job, which would hopefully teach them some responsibility and respect (it would also give them less time to cause trouble). Hopefully the parents are a bit more involved now too, since one of the kids got picked up by the police.

m – I doubt they’ll get a job to pay it. I’m sure their parents will just write a check. In my past experiences with teens damaging things, that’s what happened.

On the subject of teens, if there are any parents of teens that take the bus and wait for them in the shelters at the Junction, please teach them how to behave. I’ve been harassed by so many teens when walking through there. It’s not just one bad kid, it’s almost all of them. And they really don’t like it when you refuse them when they ask you for a cigarette.

Yeah – these are the kind of kids that get a job at McDonald’s just so they can pee in the pickle jar. Besides, you give ’em a job then they have money to spend on drugs.

House arrest and community service. Heck, I’ll supervise ’em!

Just witnessed a group of teens in a car parked out in front of my home (3 blocks from the junction). They stopped by to smoke something. Not cigarettes. Before we could get their license they took off. Could tell they were teens because before they started their session, they turned on the car’s indoor lights so they could check their cell phones – making it easy to see how old they were.

Sorry, but I’m really not liking teen parents today. I’m sure it’s not your kid. Uh huh.

I’m also sure it’s not your kid harassing me in the bus shelter for smokes, either.

A group of teens smoking (something) in front of a house is NOT a reason to call the police, fer cryin’ out loud. Knowing of several teens engaged in dangerous and illegal behaviour (throwing rocks at cars) is NOT a reason to demonize all teenagers. If you think that someone asking for a cigarette in a bus shelter = harassment, god help you, woman! pray that you never know real harassment. This hysterical fear is similar to the voices speaking out against a skate park at Myrtle. Hide in your houses! Lock the doors! The kids are outside!

Sorry, comment time is over.
