Amazon Fresh update: About those other West Seattle zip codes

When we broke the news last night about Amazon‘s new grocery-delivery service adding three West Seattle zip codes — 98116, 98126, and 98136 — to its delivery area, the question of course came quickly from West Seattleites outside those zips: What about 98106 (Delridge) and 98146 (Arbor Heights etc.)? We checked back with Vincent at Amazon, who could only tell us:

At this instant we’re considering 98106 & 98146, but unfortunately we don’t have any set timeframe. (and if we do expand, you’ll be the first to know about it ;) ).

Oh, I really hope they add 98106!! I would totally order if I could. Consider this my plea to the powers that be at Amazon. :)

Ditto!! Let’s see some 98106 love, Amazon!

For you folks that have tried this service, please share how this worked. How long did it take before they delivered? Who delivered – as in which store took the order? What type food did you order – fresh, deli, take-out, frozen, basic staples??, how did it compare in cost? Do you recommend this service?

This was AWESOME! I have a potluck at work today, and totally spaced on it. I remembered at 8:30 pm last night, placed an order for some things to bring (and other things for T-Day), and it was waiting at my door this morning in time for my 5:45 am departure for work.
Everything was packed in plastic bins that contained a Styrofoam cooler and ice packs. The bins were secured closed by these plastic tabs that are easy to remove (but not too easy for little critters trying to get to your food!).
    BEST THING EVER!

The grocery fairy came this morning! AmazonFresh rocks. I ordered two nights ago–and even added more stuff late last night. Everything was there — neatly packed etc when I woke up this morning. My kids thought it was the coolest thing. They even unpacked the stuff. They also wanted to know if we got to keep the bins (we don’t). :) I hope amazon can make money doing this, we’re sold!

I am SO excited about this as well!! I placed my first order last night. I woke up this morning to neatly stacked crates on my front porch. Everything I ordered was there. The produce is fantastic and of high quality. Prices are great and the selection was better than I expected. I heard them come at about 3:30AM – our dog growling a bit at the foot of the bed. The folks delivering were very quiet and tip-toed up to the porch. You must try this!!!

I have my order being delivered on Saturday morning. I wish I would have known about this BEFORE I went Thanksgiving shopping. Can’t wait to wake up Saturday!

well, I suppose I’m volunteering for the first glitch of the day. I placed my order last night around 10pm for a pre-dawn delivery, and…it wasn’t here when I got up this morning :( I am in an apartment bldg., so he either didn’t want to leave on the front stoop (it’s really OK, hidden from the street), or he couldn’t see the bldg. # in the dark. It’s even difficult to see during the day. There was no place on the order form for “special comments”, or I would have said something. Whatever the reason, I have talked with customer service, and they are trying to schedule me in for a daytime delivery, and will be calling me back.

As an aside…the person at customer service that I was speaking with is in Kennewick, WA (imagine that), and she said that she’s planning on moving west of the mountains next summer. I said she couldn’t go wrong with moving to West Seattle, and she said…yes, I know, I’ve already heard. We are known far and wide, it seems – lol….

ditto for me…tried it for the first time last night, and everything arrived as planned this morning. Prices ARE very reasonable and quality is excellent. I live a block away from Morgan Thriftway, but I plan to use AF on a regular basis to save money and to avoid the zoo at “shopping time.” (However, I do think Morgan Thriftway has the most efficient and friendliest checkers in WS!).

ok….well, I just got off the phone with Amazon Fresh customer service…they apologized, and will deliver my order, they said , before 4pm today. And…as a nice gesture, she said they would add some complementary products to my order as a way of apology, and asked what I wanted. So, according to her, I will be receiving a turkey, and some of my favorite cheese(Beecher’s Flagship), at no cost to me. I’ll let you know if that really happens :)

  • Sue November 21, 2007 (9:10 am)

Jan, I’m sorry you had problems with them, but I love how accomodating they were when you called. I don’t judge companies by the mistakes they make, but how they work on fixing those mistakes. Do let us know what really happens.
I’m definitely going to try them out in a few days when I need some stuff.

  • Jan November 21, 2007 (9:14 am)

Sue…well, I just received a follow-up e-mail, and, according to that, the whole order will be free, including a 15 lb turkey…I’m not going to complain. :) Turkey is a bonus, since I’m not cooking on T-Day. I will let you know what happens :)

  • nd November 21, 2007 (10:58 am)

    Jan, that’s great customer service!

Hey, if you do end up with an extra turkey, have you thought of donating it to the food bank?

    https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=4182

The West Seattle Food Bank is generally open to accept donations Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., and until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, or by appointment.

WAAAAAAAHHHH! The first day the website showed 98116 had pre-dawn delivery only. Now it shows no delivery.
An answer to my email said that 98116 not being served yet.
I’m on the Alki plateau. We need AmazonFresh down here. Pleeeeze!

  • dq November 21, 2007 (11:06 am)

i ordered too and, just so you know, there is actually a section for “special comments” (because i had to make some). it’s on the “Review Your Order and Check Out” page and it is called “Delivery Instructions”.

  • Jan November 21, 2007 (12:30 pm)

ahhhh…thanks dq…must have been tired last night when I was ordering, because I didn’t see that. I’ll remember that for the future, to make sure that they can find me :)

Jo…I’m in 98116…and, yes, they do deliver to this area. I had no problem with placing my order….just got the delivery screwed up…:)

  • Jan November 21, 2007 (12:31 pm)

    wow…a double post…imagine that…must be my lucky day – lol…

  • Jan November 21, 2007 (2:03 pm)

ok…my final post on this – lol…my order arrived about 15 minutes ago, everything was there…veggies very fresh. Delivery person was extremely nice, too. So, Jo, they do deliver to 98116, but the delivery page won’t let you click on anything if they’re full up with deliveries. , at least for the pre-dawn thing. I’m not sure what’s going on with the day time deliveries, although they made an extra trip for me…

    hope it works for you…:)

  • Jo November 21, 2007 (2:11 pm)

    thanks, Jan.
I’m using Safeway.com now and am not happy with it.
mazonFresh sounds great, but I need daytime delivery as I live in a secured apartment and leaving it outside the main door pre-dawn just won’t work.
I’ll give them a call and see when daytime delivery might happen.
    Happy turkey day to all!

  • GenHillOne November 21, 2007 (4:57 pm)

Jo – I’ve had the same experience with Safeway.com. At the risk of blowing my cover… you and I are on the same route… I’ve seen your name on the clipboard when signing ;) There is always something that they leave off (out-of-stock) and inevitably, I get something I didn’t order. Since the order comes from their Rainier location, I don’t know the store well enough either. Lots of out-of-stock items are regularly carried at either WS store. Perhaps if AF comes from one warehouse, the latter won’t be an issue. The drivers are on time and friendly, but the other stuff keeps me from being a solid customer. And BTW, I’m waiting for post-dawn delivery myself – let us know Amazon, we’ll be ready!!

  • miws November 21, 2007 (8:47 pm)

Y’know, it’s bad enough when these Companies outsource their Customer Service phone operations to India. But, Kennewick?!?!?

Has anyone here tried to make heads or tails of what someone trying to speak English with a strong Kennewickian accent is saying? It’s impossible!! :p

Jan, maybe for the consolation items you should have asked, “how about a nice rib steak, some chantrelles, a nice bottle of wine…..?” ;)

    Mike

  • Jan November 21, 2007 (10:25 pm)

lolol, Mike. When she asked what I wanted , it caught me offguard. Just a rib steak? A nice prime rib roast would have even been better – lol…the biggest one they had, so I could invite you all over ;-) Oh, well….

  • delilah November 25, 2007 (9:08 pm)

we received our first order this morning (pre-dawn). It was great. I heard the truck backing up but not the delivery person. Prices are very reasonable and my 2 year old had a blast unpacking the groceries. I hope it works. My only complaint is that they can ditch the paper grocery bags or take a lesson from Metropolitan Market and provide reusable ones…

Those of you in 98106 and 98146 (especially 98106 since that’s where I live) please submit CS inquiries asking when our zip code will be added. Can’t hurt… I just did. I filled up my shopping cart and when I tried to checkout, I was just sad :(

    Jo and other apartment/condo dwellers,

Some buildings have provided a building access code to Amazon Fresh so that drivers can enter your building and leave your groceries by your door overnight. You can contact Amazon Fresh customer service and ask for contact information to give to your apartment management or condo board regarding this.
