West Seattle snow aftermath: UPS delivery catch-up update

Just got a call from Ronna Charles Branch at UPS, even before we had finished combing the latest comments and e-mails (following up on the WSB discussion yesterday) for lingering questions to send her: She said they’ll be open tomorrow after all to keep catching up — that includes delivering ground packages as well as air. (Originally, UPS was going to be closed 12/31 as well as 1/1.) We passed two UPS trucks while en route to and from The Junction this past hour, so be on the lookout – they’re out there.

UPS will always be horrible. For 8 yrs my dad in Virginia sends me a holiday package via UPS. Every year it never arrives and it is never returned to sender. And then they won’t refund his money. Ridiculous! NOw he sends everything by standard post. If I know somethnig is coming to me I insist on using a different carrier, even at at my own expense. I have passed on several online purchases because I can’t seem to get any other carrier options. Has anyone had to go to UPS to pick something up? Horrid. After 3 failed delivery attempts, which ocurred while I was home even, UPS told me they would hold a package and I could come to pick it up. When I got there…they informed me that it was on a truck being delivered!? It took me two weeks to get that stupid package. I complain to UPS everytime to no avail. I will not use them for any reason. Ever again.

UPS delivered a package to our house at 9:00 p.m. last night. We were thrilled. Still hoping for the three missing packages that we know about, but at least they do seem to be putting in extra hours to make up for the bad weather.

  • rockergirl December 30, 2008 (1:27 pm)

I finally received 4 of the 5 packages I was missing – 1 from FED EX and 3 from UPS – one is still out there somewhere though – shows it has been from Seattle to Redmond (for some unknown reason) 2 times and in the Seattle area for 4 days – hoping to get it today – so I can then mail my daughters gifts to her USPS in Boston (since she has already gone home :()

I think UPS ROCKS!! Yeah Ian, we love our UPS guy! FedEx is the carrier that makes me crazy. They have a tough job…

  • DP December 30, 2008 (1:28 pm)

How long should we wait until asking UPS to track down a package? We’ve received all but one package, and the tracking info on the website has no info later than 12/18 for this particular package. What’s the best way to contact them?

  • Sue December 30, 2008 (1:32 pm)

I just got a package delivered early this afternoon that was sent UPS yesterday from Everett (regular ground, not one day service). I have a feeling that they’re “caught up” on anythign that’s come into the system after the storm/Christmas, but god help anybody who had anything caught in a truck during the delays. There’s no reason I should be getting a package in one day while people have been waiting for a week or more for their packages that were in the system far earlier than mine.

  • Longfellar December 30, 2008 (1:56 pm)

I’m still waiting for my UPS package that was supposed to be 2 day air. It is now the 8th day. It was postponed 5 days due to weather and has been on the truck since Monday morning.

I usually have a problem with UPS delivering my packages to my neighbor’s house even though our addresses contain different house numbers and street names- since they can’t find my house they think I must have written the wrong address or I don’t know my own address.

  • SpeakLoud December 30, 2008 (2:00 pm)

Can we hear it for the good old Postal Service please-I hardly missed a day of mail!
    Bravo.

  • Mrs. A December 30, 2008 (2:14 pm)

I thought Scrooge was an accountant not the CEO of UPS!

  • Harmonic December 30, 2008 (2:19 pm)

I contacted UPS for my missing 2 day package, due the 18th and they could do nothing to help me. Just kept referring to their website. Can’t even go and pick it up because they don’t know where it is. Funny thing is that the other standard delivery packages I expected have arrived. I really need the 2 day package. Frustrating, but they did promise me on the phone that I would have it Friday. Wonder how they know that?

  • E.Twin December 30, 2008 (2:32 pm)

Admiral Junction Mailing Center has been open every day during this mess and that is where my packages get delivered. I tracked a UPS package that should have arrived there on Christmas Eve and you know what the online info said? “Attempted delivery during business hours – Business Closed”. That is a flat out lie. Same thing on Dec 26th. I understand everything is/was a mess but UPS isn’t doesn’t even seem to be trying!! I’m sorry. I’m ranting again.

  • Tracy December 30, 2008 (2:50 pm)

It is nice that they finally decided to work on the non-holiday of December 31st. Is there a number to call that you can reach a human being?

  • P December 30, 2008 (3:17 pm)

our UPS driver actually calls us to see if we need pick-ups or if we are open. Come on, give them some slack. We had a rare storm, horrific streets, etc, and they were out attempting deliveries every day. If you think you can do it better, then head down and apply for a job. How do you think these delivery people like dealing with addresses that they cannot read on homes, dogs barking, mean people, etc?

  • GenHillOne December 30, 2008 (3:45 pm)

Sorry, P, parking the trucks and not touching the packages inside for days is not trying. Knowing that the holiday volume would continue to increase and that they weren’t going to be on the road, those packages on the trucks should have been scanned. This would have allowed for web updates, distribution center pick-up, or even pick-up from the truck at a central WS location when the arterials were clear.

The classic…GHO UPS-manager (across the country) relative calling customer service to check on package sent to us; rep directing said relative (who didn’t disclose profession) to report missing delivery on the UPS website; relative (knowing that there was no way to do that on the website) asked rep how one would go about doing that; answer? “I don’t know” – district manager called to see what the heck is going on here. Don’t fool yourselves. Yes, those doing the legwork ARE working hard in a bad situation and do a great job with all the daily variables like bad addresses, dogs, asshats, etc., but from the management level, what happened here is not acceptable. I do not blame the individual drivers.

  • KSJ December 30, 2008 (4:11 pm)

I was able to call UPS on Friday with a number I found digging around on their Web site. They make you say one of three options, but if you go through that process one time, THEN you can press zero and get a real person. The real person helped me move the shipping of a package, and it still hasn’t been delivered today, but they called last night to apologize – so at least it’s on their radar. I guess.

  • P December 30, 2008 (4:30 pm)

GenHillOne, did you stop to think that maybe there was nobody available to scan all those trucks with packages? If we couldn’t make it to work, how could they make it to work? Now that the snow is over, they are dealing with the lasting effects of all of the packages. At least the UPS call center is located within the United States, unlike many other companies. Also, there is a liablity issue of meeting a truck on a corner. And then its not delivered to the address specified, which the shipper has a contract with the carrier, that being UPS to deliver to the address. Legal things that keep our lawyers in business. In the past I have asked for weird delivery options and have been told no, which now that I had to sign a billion page long contract with UPS because I ship daily I understand. Its part of the insurance that my package carries when it leaves my store and is in place until the person that is receiving the package receives the package.
I know its frustrating, but they are doing the best that they can.

  • Julia December 30, 2008 (4:54 pm)

Look, I love my UPS guy. He’s a great guy. In fact, my ground package that arrived on time arrived with a phone call “I’m going to get stuck in your driveway, can you meet me down here to grab the box?” and I was very happy to be able to do that. And I had a UPS package hanging on a tree next to my mailbox. I appreciated that one too. Those two were randomly delivered during the worst of it.

But for some random reason a full 10 other packages are not here. And they are all expedited two day delivery that were set to arrive on the 19th.

All my ground packages are arriving no problem, and everything mailed post christmas is arriving no problem.

The reason, at this juncture, that I’m getting annoyed is that of the 10 that haven’t arrived 3 are for family that are leaving on Friday. And one of those is school books for a family member who will be starting college on the 5th. So how do I get it to him in a timely manner if he is gone before the package shows up?

  • hopey December 30, 2008 (5:02 pm)

    Another day, another UPS no-show…
    .
Supposedly my package was put on a truck early in the morning on the 29th. I refreshed the tracking page at various times during the day yesterday with no change. But suddenly a little after midnight, a “location scan” shows up as having occurred at 11:11am on 12/29. There has been no change to the record since then.
    .
I am furious, but thanks to others’ comments I also know it is useless to call & ask them to hold the package at a pickup location for me. I am resigned to the fact that I won’t see any of my UPS packages before the New Year. And quite frankly, at this point I’ll be surprised if I see any of them before the first fortnight of 2009 is over.

  • JH December 30, 2008 (5:22 pm)

I totally forgot I was still due a UPS package. The tracking says “Destination Scan” on 12/21 and nothing else! I’m sending the stupid thing back anyway once I get it. Let’s hope I’m home to refuse it! ha!

  • Ouchy December 30, 2008 (5:26 pm)

Everything from us that seemed to be stuck on a parked truck was delivered (Out For Delivery). Now we’re waiting for whatever was still in the warehouse. It’s still early, we’re hoping tonight we can finish Christmas. :P

  • GenHillOne December 30, 2008 (5:48 pm)

P, at least 2 of my packages had their delivery day called off at 2:30PM on Friday the 19th. I expect that there were employees still around that day – if not one day since then – that could have scanned them as they went into the semi-trucks for storage. There has been no additional information since the notation of “conditions beyond UPS control.” I know this is not standard procedure. As has been noted by others, even more than the perfect storm of undelivered packages is the importance of customer service, or lack thereof in the face of it. And I apologize to my neighbors because I’m sure the smell of rotting meat has, by now, seeped from one of our wayward shipments.

  • mani December 30, 2008 (6:18 pm)

Well, thanks to UPS for deeming to work on a non-holiday. However, nothing seems to stir these people to do the right thing and promise delivery of all packages held back this week. My package is still in limbo – scheduled delivery was on 12/18. As I mentioned in another thread, even if I had bought the item from a store 300 miles away and walked from there to Redmond (at 20 miles a day, I would have reached Redmond.

  • D December 30, 2008 (6:23 pm)

UPS has somewhere in the range of 6 – 8 packages from my family and from businesses that I’m beginning to suspect I will never see. They have admitted to losing two of them, and the rest just continue to have their rescheduled delivery date pushed back. Calling UPS is worthless – not only do they have no answers, the last young man I spoke with was exceptionally rude and condescending.

I’m writing up a brilliant article on the whole mess. I intend to title it “The Year UPS Stole Christmas”. It gives me some small satisfaction that my family and the business I work for are both so disgusted with this mess that they intend to never use UPS again.

  • k December 30, 2008 (6:41 pm)

Finally a UPS sighting @ 6:20pm! Pulled into the driveway, happy Mom and kids dancing in the window– then inexplicably the driver drove away! Oh NO!

I still hear a truck driving around the neighborhood…

If I had a spot light and a bullhorn I would be out calling– “We’re over here! We’re over here!”

  • D December 30, 2008 (6:55 pm)

I received two packages from UPS (that were shipped at the same time) last Friday and another package today. I know of at least two other packages that haven’t made it to me yet. They were all scheduled for a pre-Christmas delivery. The one that I have tracking information on has weather related information listed for the 18th, 19th, 22nd, 24th, and 26th. For the 26th the information states that “the package will resume as soon as the weather condtions allow.” Hopefully the weather will get better soon. For what its worth my mail and newspaper delivery didn’t miss a day during the storm.

  • Brandon December 30, 2008 (7:06 pm)

What is utterly amazing is that UPS doesn’t seem to have any contingency plan here for a worst case scenario (and I wouldn’t call this storm “worst case” by a long shot). Much like the City, the attitude seems to be, put it off until later, we’re resigned to not solving the issue right now, we’ve got their money, what can anyone do? It’s not like these storms snuck up on anybody. And it’s not like they don’t serve other cities with much worse conditions. Is there to AWD available? Extra workers, or OT? Do they even care enough?
Seattle is always on the fringe of what could be extremely severe weather, but always catches a break with some rain, or warming temps. But one of these times we are going to catch The Big One. I fear how unprepared The City will be ready with any sort of worst case scenario action plan.

  • Teresa December 30, 2008 (7:11 pm)

We’re receiving post-storm packages on time. However, the packages we were to receive during the storm haven’t moved. It could be quite awhile before those packages arrive. Of course UPS knows they have people over a barrel, because they’re the chosen shipper for about all of the mail order firms. People need to ask for alternative carriers, and refuse to order mail order if UPS is the only carrier. The only thing that means anything to these people is money. We should hit them where it hurts.

  • Ouchy December 30, 2008 (8:27 pm)

Update: Just got 3 boxes 10 minutes ago. One was ordered just a few days ago, the other 2 were almost 2 weeks ago. So my Seattle Christmas is over. Now to get Auburn and Kent going and we’ll be done. :P

  • mani December 30, 2008 (10:26 pm)

Another day goes by and my packages remain in limbo….this is extremely disappointing…

  • hopey December 30, 2008 (10:57 pm)

No UPS packages for us today, either. Website still says “out for delivery” on Dec 29th with no updates.

  • nuancedream December 30, 2008 (11:50 pm)

One update from UPS. My package that was scheduled for 12/18 delivery is scheduled to be delivered on 1/2/09! This package originated in Los Angeles and has been sitting on some container since 12/23. No other update on my other two packages. Grrr!!!!!

  • litlnemo December 31, 2008 (4:33 am)

My last pre-Christmas package finally arrived tonight, after having been in Seattle since a few days before Christmas. UPS showed up at our house at — get this — 5 minutes after TEN PM. (Beacon Hill.)

I guess this means they really are trying to do their best to fix things. Wow.

We have one more package outstanding, but the merchant didn’t actually ship it until after Christmas, darn them.

  • xxx December 31, 2008 (8:37 am)

I would love to see some more media coverage on the UPS fiasco. Some really bad PR will not hurt them in getting their act together. Someone at UPS has to be held accountable for this mess…especially in these tough economic times, management performance at the Redmond/Seattle center needs to be looked at very carefully.

  • Aaargh December 31, 2008 (10:19 am)

I just got off the phone with FED EX. They have had my package at their airport station since December 19th and promised to deliver it on the 26th then on the 29th then the 30th and now they told me it won’t be until the middle of next week. I emailed their customer service on the 26th to start a paper trail but they haven’t gotten back to me.

  • westwoodmom December 31, 2008 (10:36 am)

Still waiting on packages that both previously showed as arriving in Seattle on 12/19, no update on one since then, the other has no info available now. One is a live mushroom kit, do I have hopes it is alive now? Really tired of this, not so much the delivery as the ability to track their packages and let customers pick up-what a mess!

  • Teresa December 31, 2008 (10:57 am)

I think the only thing that will fix the problem is to stop mail ordering at Christmas. That’s what I’m going to do.

    Amazon, sorry.
    Costco, SOL.
    Newegg, fuggetaboutit.

As long as these orgs force you to use UPS, no more mail orders at Christmas.

  • Teresa December 31, 2008 (10:58 am)

And BTW, I have two packages still in the queue. One is worth $1500, the other $900. Neither has any estimated arrival date, which means they’ll likely arrive while we’re not at home. I hope they’re insured, because if they’re stolen, I’ll charge back on my credit card.

  • Mick December 31, 2008 (11:03 am)

Update: Received 2 from FedEx this week. Still waiting on UPS.

1 shipped 12/14 via Ground due 12/21 shows status as of 12/21 – Location Scan. No new delivery date.

1 shipped 12/14 via Ground due 12/21 shows new status as of 12/30 – Destination Scan. No new delivery date.

1 shipped 12/15 via 3 Day Select due 12/18 shows status 12/30 6am – Out For Delivery. I never received it. Now it shows Origin Scan at 10pm 12/30 and a rescheduled delivery date of 1/2/2008.

1 shipped 12/17 via 3 Day Select due 12/20 shows new status as of 12/31 – Destination Scan. Rescheduled delivery date of 1/2/2008.

Of course, #1 is the one with the least amount of information but is the most important one because that is a laptop for my son to take to school with him on Monday. It will also need to be signed for…

  • mani December 31, 2008 (11:08 am)

It seems like that the issues of the majority of (helpless) customers have not yet been sorted out. Is there anything we can do to force these guys to act, other than complain to Amazon, etc. and stop using UPS? They don’t seem to care as long as they have companies using them for shipping…

  • Mick December 31, 2008 (11:09 am)

Teresa – I placed a couple orders with Amazon this week and noticed they chose to deliver the merchandise to me via FedEx – I should get the stuff Friday and next week. This was not thru a 3rd party Amazon store – it was directly from Amazon who has used UPS and USPS exclusively to deliver to me the past 5 years. Maybe they are aware of the UPS problems in the area.

  • stb December 31, 2008 (3:10 pm)

Yay! It all finally arrived today.

  • mani December 31, 2008 (4:51 pm)

My $500 package still remains in limbo – scheduled to be delivered on 12/18….this is one of the most frustrating experience…Thank you UPS for adding New Year’s to your holiday screw ups (which now includes Christmas).

  • xxx December 31, 2008 (5:34 pm)

The UPS guy again comes to my neighborhood and then leaves without delivering my package…sigh! What does one do with these folks who run things to depressingly?

  • hopey December 31, 2008 (6:06 pm)

No UPS love for me. Again.

  • Mick December 31, 2008 (7:23 pm)

Well my update is happy. For those of you waiting for packages I don’t know what to say. I called the merchants today but they didn’t want to trace the packages because they had “Scans” on them (?) They told me to take it up with UPS. How long do you wait until you call it lost?

But turns out 3 of the packages that I have been waiting for arrived today which included the 1 that hadn’t been updated since 12/21 (the laptop) as well as one of them that wasn’t expected until 1/2. I hope you get all your stuff Friday.

  • hopey December 31, 2008 (7:58 pm)

Oooookay, now I’m mad. I just noticed a big box package truck leaving my dead-end street. I checked my porch, even though my dogs had not alerted me to any “intruders”: nothing.
    .
To be fair, I think the truck may have been white instead of brown. But even so, it would just be more proof that FedEx is on the job when UPS is not.

  • WSB December 31, 2008 (8:02 pm)

Sorry to hear that. FWIW, I couldn’t get ahold of UPS spokespeople today. I guess they took the day off as originally planned, at least at corporate HQ. We did see a SLEW of UPS and FedEx trucks out and about during one 45-min drive across WS and back pre-dusk.

  • mani December 31, 2008 (9:55 pm)

This has been yet another depressing day for me waiting for my package originally scheduled to be delivered 12/18….they probably are going to happily take tomorrow and the weekend off as usual, while no one seems to know or care where my package is. No Christmas cheer, no New Year’s cheer…

  • Sarah December 31, 2008 (10:59 pm)

I thought the problems were with packages due to be delivered previously, so I didn’t think anything of ordering some items over the weekend and expediting them to two-day air shipping. The merchant’s website specified that the order would arrive on 12/31 this way, which was perfect because they’re necessities for the trip I leave on early tomorrow morning. Guess what? The package was “out for delivery” this morning, but nothing came. I held out hope until 9:00, but now the tracker says “rescheduled delivery” of 1/2. Great; my husband and I will be in Cozumel, and the package will be on our porch. :-(

  • Brandon January 1, 2009 (12:11 am)

We have been calling UPS the last 3 days to get them to change our status from “pickup” to deliver to addressee since no one on the phone can really tell us where the package is (either on a truck or in a trailor). The status reads waiting for customer to pick up, unable to contact. We went down to 7th Ave today, but the CS is closed! We found a friendly, sympathetic driver who was willing to go into the facility to look for us, but instead said that the package could be in one of 15 pallets, and he couldn’t dig through all of them. We thanked him for trying and gritted our teeth at management because we still don’t have any idea how UPS is going to handle the package. Can we pick it up? Will it get delivered? No one seems to know and no one seems to be able to give us an answer. Stay tuned, the stupidity continues. BTW, any one get the message that UPS does not guarantee any ground shipments during the whole month of December? It was a new one on us….

  • Allen January 1, 2009 (4:56 am)

“THE RECEIVER REQUESTED A HOLD FOR A FUTURE DELIVERY DATE. UPS WILL ATTEMPT DELIVERY ON DATE REQUESTED / DELIVERY RESCHEDULED”

    I made no such request.

UPS, please get your act together. All we want to know is when our packages are actually going to be delivered. Sigh, when the system works it does a great job. When it breaks the information received from UPS is appalling. IMHO, it is time to update the tracking information system to provide accurate and timely information.

  • mani January 1, 2009 (9:47 am)

If WSB and other media outlets can bring a bit more press to this issue, that will help us customers a lot. Now, if only we could convince the big retailers to stop using UPS given the widespread nature of the problems.

  • Allen January 1, 2009 (10:13 am)

Hopefully this issue will receive enough press so that UPS will start communicating in an honest and timely manner. Everything is good when all goes as planned but the true nature of any company is not known until problems occur. I honestly thought that UPS would handle these types of situation in a honest professional. Their records now show that I requested that my package be held for future delivery. Why are they blaming me?

Remember UPS management policies seem to be the cause of the issues, not the drivers. Contacting UPS does not help.

Come on UPS, get your act together!

  • hopey January 1, 2009 (4:10 pm)

Update: my next-door neighbor brought over a package this afternoon which had been left on their doorstep.
    .
That package had been shipped next-day air on December 23rd. I am waiting for another package which was also shipped next-day air… on December 20th. That one has said “OUT FOR DELIVERY” since December 23rd. The package I received today was delivered on the first try, albeit to the wrong house.
    .
This is just mind-boggling. I don’t think I’ll ever trust UPS for holiday packages again.

  • xxx January 2, 2009 (8:24 am)

Can WSB be kind enough to contact UPS on the behalf of us unlucky customers? They should really deliver tomorrow to clean up all the backlog, but knowing them they probably would not.

  • WSB January 2, 2009 (8:48 am)

Yes, I’m trying them again today.

  • Brandon January 2, 2009 (9:53 am)

You mean, you shouldn’t have to wait one full week after Christmas for a package to be delivered? Imagine that!

  • Allen January 2, 2009 (10:26 am)

I would be happy if packages were being delivered only a week after Christmas. I did get an email from UPS saying that my packages will be delivered today even though the website says not until Monday. All were rescheduled, from those that were originally scheduled to be delivered on the 18th to those that were originally scheduled to be delivered today. Out for delivery on the 30th but rescheduled again.

  • mani January 2, 2009 (11:14 am)

At this point I will be happy to just receive my packages which are more than 15 days overdue over original delivery date…sigh!

  • hopey January 2, 2009 (1:16 pm)

A UPS truck just came down our dead-end street. He paused at our driveway, then seemed to think better of it and continued on to the end of the street. He got out of the truck with a package but did not come to our door. My husband went down to talk to him. The driver said he didn’t have anything for us, but that there are two other trucks working the area today.
    .
The one package I can track has a fresh “Out for delivery” scan this morning. We shall see…

  • Allen January 2, 2009 (4:08 pm)

I have been wondering why UPS doesn’t let a TV camera crew come in and show what they are dealing with. I am sure it must be a mess. Their system has definitely been overloaded. The part that is so frustrating to me is that UPS is not attempting to communicate with their customers. Better tracking info and explaining what is happening at the present time would definitely be a plus for me.

  • GenHillOne January 2, 2009 (4:43 pm)

Well if anyone is still checking here while still waiting – our ride has come to an end. Last two packages (one “out for delivery @ 2AM Monday and one with “destination scan” 9AM Wednesday) both arrived today. Said they were delivered @ 11:54, but I checked after that and they weren’t out there; who knows. The third (perishable) package was refused on Wednesday. Prior to the above, none of them had updated tracking info after 12/19, so here’s hoping that others get their shipments today. Good luck.

  • mani January 2, 2009 (5:11 pm)

No such luck for me yet….nothing changed on tracking….

  • hopey January 2, 2009 (5:47 pm)

Ditto here. No packages, no change.

  • WSB January 2, 2009 (6:29 pm)

UPS didn’t bother returning my messages but the P-I quotes a spokesperson (different people all the time, wonder how many folks they have in PR??) as saying they’re planning on some deliveries tomorrow http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/394617_shippingwoes03.html

  • xxx January 2, 2009 (7:02 pm)

nothing here yet…these guys are pathetic…

This is RIDICULOUS! I still don’t have anything even though all 3 packages (2 been in Seattle for close to 2 weeks now) are supposed to be delivered today. I went there last week wanting to pick up and was turned around as well…UPS Please RELEASE my packages that you’re holding HOSTAGE!

  • xxx January 2, 2009 (7:44 pm)

These guys have no clue where the package is – 404-828-3219 is the corporate number. SOmeone from there assured me the package will get delivered today. guess what – it wasn’t. He also gave me the local number 425-882-4111 in issaquah, and i called them and they said that the trailer is inaccessible until Monday and all they know is that it is not in the truck. Bottomline – a very frustrated me is still waiting on the package, and UPS has no bloody clue where it is and are useless. He said they were doing their best – absolutely not. Biggest bunch of insincere and useless people. I have put the numbers here so everyone can call and complain and give them a piece of your mind.

On the same note, if you are waiting on the packages, pls call – only way is paining them to deliver it seems. The corporate 404 number will be open on Monday, the 425 number till 10PM today.

Ok I’m not one to complain but COME ON! 2 Day Air deliver scheduled to be delivered on 12/19 and there is NO SIGN of it. NO ONE can tell me where or when I’ll get it. Tracking status has it going “Out for Delivery” on 3 different days! HA! What a joke. If I could re-order I would. But then I’d have to pay for shipping again! I guess UPS knows there really is no recourse for us. They have that “Weather Exception” rule. On another note, Fedex shipped a package on 12/17 and it arrived 12/20. So…Fedex can do it, USPS can do it. UPS…just can’t.

  • xxx January 2, 2009 (10:06 pm)

As I said call them and tell them what you think. Is there any recourse for us? Small claims? Because if things are all cleared out from their trailers, then the items are clearly lost…

What can Brown do for me? Apparently nothing. I don’t believe them. Today I had 3 packages that shipped on 12/30 2nd day Air. Nothing arrived, but all still show “out for delivery” – I’ve called them 3 times today. And they can’t do anything because it shows out for delivery (can’t go to 7th Ave S station to pick up in person) and now they tell me they will deliver Monday – I doubt it – the packages are lost in “out for delivery land” Don’t believe them when they tell you that shipments scheduled post-holidays are OK. They confirmed to me on the phone today that they have 70,000 packages still backlogged from Dec 1st for Seattle undelivered. What a joke. I’m sure my packages have entered the twilight zone now. Funny, USPS delivered every day for the last 3 weeks except regularly scheduled days off.

Mayor Nickels can shove his B- handling of the storm up his a$$, let’s vote his sorry, corrupt self out.

WSB, you have been kind enough to talk to UPS on our behalf. Next time, please tell them not to lie to us, you and everyone else with stuff like everything is out of the trailers, because as I was informed today, it is not. If they say it will be delivered, chances are it will not. No one knows – it seems that the packages have a mind of their own. A bunch of incompetents who should not be in the delivery business. If only I could find a way to ensure that companies stop using these guys.

My packages are now rescheduled for the 5th time…to Jan 5th! This is SO *BLANK*ing STUPID! It’s been in Seattle since the 22nd! Why can’t I come pick it up. I am not sure if the UPS hub is open tomorrow but I’m heading there tomorrow regardless and I am NOT leaving without my packages! This has driven me into insanity. I have been waiting for 2 packages that contains parts for my car! I have not driven my car for 3 weeks now an 2 of those weeks is delayed because of UPS. I paid $287 to ship though and get them here on a certain date…and I think 2 weeks overdue is grounds for a complete refund!

When it “ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY HAS TO GET THERE” *NEXT YEAR*

My package (with medical equipment) was shipped Dec 12, 2008. It will definitely NOT arrive before Jan 6 2009(!)

Here are the details of my shipment:

    6 days cross country
    – 16 (will be greater than 19) days in Kent, WA

    – Medical supplies critical to patient with acute decompensated heart failure

    – No response to call (they did take my #)

    – For 4 days, package listed as “On Truck for Delivery”

    – Every day, at end of day, updated to “No Delivery Attempt”

    – Failure to provide *ANY* even approximately accurate information on when package will arrive has made it impossible to know when/if an alternative source of the supplies needs to be sought

    – Phone call to FedEx Customer Support, they took my phone number but never called back

    – Phone call to Kent is greeted with (after about 10 rings) “Your Party is NOT ANSWERING” – (it is Saturday…but UPS is clearly working…)

    – Roads have been clear to my neighborhood for 6 days now, UPS and USPS have been delivering all week (and UPS was just here on Saturday)

How can one get accurate information about their package???????

(Kent FedEx facility is managed by Mike Arvai, (Fax area code 425) 251 9142.
