Update: Burglary suspects arrested in Admiral neighborhood

Thanks to everyone who’s e-mailed us with a tip about this – major police activity in the Belvidere/Admiral area (map). Police there tell us there’s a possible burglary suspect in a house there. More to come. P.S. That’s also why you are hearing/seeing helicopters – there’s at least one news chopper in the area. 11:43 AM UPDATE: This is breaking up now – two suspects have just been arrested. ADDED 12:28 PM: Here’s Christopher’s photo of one suspect – we are not showing his face because at this point, he is not formally charged (that would come later and be up to prosecutors):

Second, we just checked with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office: The man arrested in Fauntleroy after two burglaries late Saturday night/early Sunday morning (WSB original coverage here, followup here – don’t miss the comments, which include the victim’s firsthand story) is expected in court for a bail hearing this afternoon. We’re planning to cover that to find out what happens – given he not only has a long record, he also is a registered Level 3 sex offender living in West Seattle (past rape conviction). We’ll publish an update from the courthouse.

    Thanks WSB and Diane. I just drove by minutes ago and was shocked @ all the activity. It defin. looked like they had squared off a section of the neighborhood.It will be interesting to hear more.

    Hint to Burglars: There are lots of retired folks in this neighborhood – they keep a watchout for us working stiffs.

    This is NOT a good place to attempt a robery. I agree. Too many residents here looking out for each other. Get lost burglars! You’ll get caught every time!!!!

    I’m actually adding a second photo from Christopher in a minute as soon as I can get the upload system to behave – Not only was he shirtless, he was wearing shorts. Changing clothes in hopes of a getaway? Who knows. Also for anyone who followed the Sat nite/Sun morn burglary arrest in Fauntleroy, the suspect is in court this afternoon and barring MORE breaking news I plan to be there … looooooong record on that guy.

    Thank you WSB! I was wondering about all the helicopter activity and I knew right where to find out about it… the blog of course. Kinda creepy when I looked at the pictures and realized this was happening not even a block away from my house. Way to go neighbors! It’s reassuring to know we are looking out for one another.

    As you all have probably noticed over the years, home breakins have been common in WS.. it’s nice to see more and more arrests. Sooner or later, the thiefs will get the hint. Thanks residents for being vigilant and caring about our community. Thanks to the police for the recent work on breaking up burglary rings and making arrests.

    Amazing to see our neighborhood in action. I was away but came home to the see e-mail log of what had been going on. We did well to set up our neighborhood communications after the last set of break-ins in Spring. KUDOS to my ballsy and informed neighbors, and to the SPD officers who responded quickly and effectively.

    I wonder how the rate of break-ins in West Seattle compares to other neighborhhoods in Seattle? Is it just as bad or are we targeted for some reason?

    Do you really believe this? Not picking on you WSratsinacage, but seriously, do thieves read blogs to find out where their colleagues are being caught and arrested? – Then avoid those areas?

    I’m super curious about kathy’s question. How does the number of WS break-ins and burglary calls compare to other Seattle hoods? Anybody have stats?

    We live on Admiral and were burglarized last October. I’m curious if this is the same guy, or if our perps are still out there. I always thought being on a busy street would be a deterrant, but you’re never safe. Get an alarm system if you don’t have one. You don’t always hear about the activity that goes on, either. Ours was barely reported, although there was over $12K in stolen goods.

    I don’t have stats, but have found it interesting that despite prior arrests and a vigilant neighborhood the same kids came back to the same six-block area replete with dead-ends. And they were caught again.

    As far as reading the blogs, I’ve talked with solicitors, both licensed and unlicensed, who have claimed they are not the ones THAT BLOG is telling me about. Some are keeping watch.

    JanS: Ha-ha. It’s probably safe to say that that young man would be decidedly unwelcome at the SW Library, no? Judging from his long list of sartorial infractions there would probably be a SWAT team of librarians on him the minute he walked in the door.

    I am so impressed with us!! We are home and our eyes are open. This kid in the photo is the same ass that broke in on 37th earlier this year in May. He actually had the huevos to try again in broad
    daylight. One thing we all noticed additionally was the butts of cigarettes-Camels to be exact- around our houses, they were casin’ and smokin’ at night. Well done folks!!

    All crime stats for Seattle are available on the SPD website – it only allows you to drill down to the census tract we’re in and 2008 stats aren’t loaded yet.

    Regarding the lack of a shirt: What I have discovered from 20 years of watching “COPS” is that the sure way for a man to be arrested is to not be wearing a shirt. If you aren’t wearing a shirt, you will go to jail. Ladies, make sure your hoop earrings are small enough so as not to allow a quarter to pass through. Wear big hoop earrings and you will go to jail. Of course, hanging around criminals and engaging in criminal activities helps, too.

    Bent- Thanks for adding the info about the cigarette butts around your house. That set off some bells and whistles in my head about some of the stuff we’ve been noticing in our neighborhood over the last week or so, too, and I had just waved off as being a result of living on a bus stop…

    The reason he had no shirt was that they were pretending that they were asleep in the apartment. I am working across the alley from where they were arrested, and it was great fun to watch our police take care of them.

    Just a reminder about the perp’s mo, remember after the last break in on 37th he came back to the exact same house 4 days later. I don’t know if he has changed his mo but for the next couple of weeks we should all be on the look out since obviously he’s not the sharpest crayon in the box.

    People need to stop harrasing me! I’m the one that lives in that unit, and yes I am not supporting what happend. I feel aweful for what my friend did. I had no idea he was going to do this.

    And by the way, my friends and I have all been in this neighborhood for many years. Way before I moved into this apartment. And, NONE OF US are “gang members”.

    Please leave me alone. I’m a good person and so is the one in the pictures and all of my friends. People make mistakes and learn from them and I know he defintly did. SO JUST STOP PLEASE.

    Kelsie-You say Skyelar just made a mistake and has since learned from it, the police say he is a career criminal. He has an extensive rap sheet, including previously stealing from another home in the same neighborhood. You are dating him, do you not know where all the computers, all the other electronics he just happens to have lying around come from? You are guilty by association, that may not be fair but that’s life, you lay with dogs, you get fleas. We don’t want you in our neighborhood. We don’t think your wide eyed and innocent. We have seen by your actions, that is how we know. Stop crying victim. Good people do not break into other people’s homes and steal. You should be ashamed of yourself.

    Hi Kelsie, know that many neighbors have seen Skyelar back in the neighborhood. If you don’t want the attention, I suggest you help him find someplace else to spend his time. His court records indicate that he has quite a history or criminal behavior. We are aware and watching.
