The next big summer festival in West Seattle is just two weeks away – the Morgan Junction Community Festival on Saturday, June 25th. We’re proud to co-sponsor the Morgan Community Association‘s signature public celebration again this year (the full list of sponsors is on the official poster), and MoCA’s Kate Gill de la Garza has just shared new details, including the “Bite of Morgan” food-sample lineup and kids’ activities. The music lineup, Kate says, is “near-final” – one act just canceled (they’re looking for a replacement). And a really big addition: The festival is expanding around its Morgan Junction Park (6413 California SW) epicenter, with vendors/exhibitors on both sides of California – not just behind Zeeks/Feedback Lounge, but also alongside Washington Federal Savings. Read on for more festival details:
First, the “Bite of Morgan,” as explained by Kate: “Restaurants/businesses participating in the traveling ‘Bite’ are as follows. We will have approximately 500 bite booklets again that will be offered for free on a ‘first come, first served’ basis [at the festival info booth]. Folks will pick up free ‘bite-sized’ food at the participating establishments. This is a very generous thing that our businesses agree to on a yearly basis (especially during this economic time). This year we will be asking visitors to ‘return the favor’ by coming back at a later date and patronizing one (or all!) of these participating establishments. They are each amazing community members and we want them to feel the love, not just on the day of the Festival!”
Participating for 2011 are:
Abbondanza Pizzeria
Pet Elements (doggie bites)
McDonald’s
Domino’s Pizza
Meander’s Kitchen
Windermere Real Estate (cold drinks)
Zeeks Pizza
Feedback Lounge
Kokoras Greek Grill
You also can go to West Seattle Thriftway for their full-lunch barbecue, which isn’t free but IS a fundraiser with all proceeds going to next year’s Morgan Junction Community Festival!
MUSIC LINEUP: See it here (including that opening we mentioned), starting with young School of Rock musicians playing at 10:30, and continuing through an eclectic list of talent!
KIDS’ ACTIVITIES: “This year we will have enhanced physical kids’ activities in the Morgan Junction Park, sponsored by our own Little Gym! We will also have face painting (sponsored by Edward Jones), chalk-art contests, an old-time photo booth, and, of course, the Bubble Man, featured at 11:15 am.”
And of course many more vendors and organizations – including WSB – will be on site; come by to say hi and learn more about businesses and neighbors, even if your home is nowhere near Morgan Junction. The festival will run 10:30 am-7 pm on Saturday, June 25th.
