Wildlife sighting ahead: Jesse Link painting mural for The Lofts At The Junction

Thanks to Eddie for the photo and word that painting is under way on The Junction’s highest-profile mural in a long time. A mural has always been in the plan for the south-facing wall of The Lofts At The Junction (4535 44th SW), but the design wasn’t done until long after the project went through Design Review and started construction. After Eddie shared the tip this afternoon, we went over and hollered up at the artist to ask what’s in store – not knowing at the time that it’s Jesse Link, last featured here when he painted a mural on The Shack coffee house in Luna Park a month and a half ago. This afternoon, via that ground-to-bucket exchange, he told us the mural will feature a heron and a tugboat.

    Wonderful!

    YAY!

Jesse’s mural on The Shack is great. I think we all should support that indie business for providing the public art on their wall. The coffee shop has looked a little empty lately – I wonder if the new Starbucks at Alaska & Cali has taken customers away?

Support the businesses which support our dwindling artists! Drink Shack coffee!

Wow, glad to hear that this space was intended for a mural. I was wondering why there was an empty space there (I thought perhaps it was going to be advertising or something equally obnoxious).

This is great. Jesse does really interesting work. I can’t wait to see the finished mural. This will be a welcome addition to the Junction. I hope more building owners will include public art.

We should probably do a general update on that at some point. It does exist in more than a few projects (Lezlie Jane’s creation outside Spruce comes to mind). And on the mural front, The Whittaker is still slated to include a re-creation of the mural that had been on the east side of the former Huling building that was on the site’s southeast corner, as well as some other art around the periphery. – TR

What’s that goofy lettering at California and Alaska, near the Starbucks sign? Is it art too? Looks like “K” and “Y” and “X”.

Ha, I’ve been trying to figure that out too, short of asking the management company. Reminds me of the signage lettering seen in some of the more-recent “Star Wars” movies.

Some Henry art is what WS could use. Just to remind us of why Seattle should remain a bit funky rather than what seems to be trickling in here.

Sorry, comment time is over.
