WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Carjacking on Harbor Avenue SW

6:36 AM: Also in the pre-dawn hours, a carjacking on Harbor Avenue SW, on the first night of new “summer safety” hours from Alki Beach Park to Don Armeni Boat Ramp (a short distance east of where this happened). Thanks for the tip on this; according to archived police radio, the initial report came in as a driver hitting a parked vehicle in the 1000 block of Harbor Avenue just before 4 am. Reports then came in about a driver being carjacked at the scene and suspect(s) taking off in that vehicle, described as a gray Chrysler Pacifica. At least one was reported to be armed; one 911 caller had reported hearing possible shots but police say they found no evidence, or witnesses, of gunfire. As this was all being investigated, police found a different vehicle (update, not clear yet if this was a different scene), a Toyota sedan, that had been stolen in a South Seattle carjacking earlier in the night. We’re asking police for more info on all this, and also sorting through photos sent by the tipster (thank you).

6:48 AM: The photo above was taken after the crash; the one below shows police with a vehicle left behind (a Toyota, but we don’t know yet if it’s the one referenced above):

Hi there commenters, I’m wondering how many of us can just straightforwardly agree, without qualifications, that armed theft of a vehicle is a crime that should be punished, for which there aren’t any exculpatory reasons?  I mean specifically that someone who is  convicted (not just accused) of this crime should in fact actually spend real time (years) in a jail cell, because this kind of crime indicates some anti social tendencies—theft and use of force—that break the basic social contract.I’d love to find areas of agreement and thought this might be one.

Are you saying it’s more aggregious than mugging, home invasions, etc. because cars are involved?

      • K May 2, 2026 (7:42 am)

        That was my takeaway.

That wasn’t my take on “looking at bridges” comment. Doesn’t matter if it is a carjacking or not these people doing these crimes pointing a gun at someones head whether its a mugging or home invasion should do prison time.

No, not my point.  It was violent and it was theft. Mugging, home invasions all work for me as well, but I was just asking because this was the story.  So, how about it?

He did not say that —

@looking for bridges   How do the current guidelines need revising per your opinion?https://cfc.wa.gov/sites/default/files/Publications/Adult_Sentencing_Manual_2008_ErrataSheet_part1.pdf

Robbery 1st degree is 24-36 months with no prior felony “points”. Add a 60 month firearm enhancement if the DA wants maximum penalty. But realistically they’re going to be offered a plea deal for less. Low end of the Rob 1 with no gun enhancement. In prison there they run intelligence to map all the gang networks, but they don’t keep people incarcerated for continued membership. Active gang members must never be released, yet they are constantly.

Yes – jail or prison time is needed with some hard manual labor included.

Awoke around 04:15 on by the sound of 7 or so cars blazing down Delridge what must have been over 50mph, followed by 8 or so police cars with sirens about 30 seconds later. Unsure if related but about 5 minutes later saw there was a WS eastbound bridge accident blocking all lanes.

Furthermore, the fact that this has anything to do simply with “cars being involved” is such an awesome example of another thing the majority of this town does. Take whatever question or thought is thrown at you, and turn it into somehow a separate non-sequitor conversation that wasn’t even happening and not connected in any way. Divert attention to something else because whatever answer you’d have had to their question was so bad there’s no way you can actually address it. Again, glad to clear up your confusion.

I have lived here for decades. The crowd that is now at Alki Beach is rough …rowdy….loud.  Feels like Alki has turned into Miami Beach As far as how crowded it is. Personally, I hate what it’s happening at Alki. One big party and not a police officer in sight.  (Although it would probably be dangerous for the police to be there.? ) there is a parking spot specifically for Police that used to actually have a police officer there before we got a city full of gangs and losers. What is our current mayor doing about this?

Well, since she’s not been here during summer…I’m fine when people aren’t fond of a candidate, but it would be kinda cool to give a person more than a few months. Alas, this country is nuts and weirdos voted in this current circus at Fed level even AFTER the clowns were running it! Crazy shiz!! 🤣🤣

      • bill May 2, 2026 (7:51 pm)

Yep, nuts and weirdos putting the dumb in FREEDUM! We’ve lost an underpinning of mutual respect, aka politeness.

They carjacked a minivan.  That seems a little embarrassing for tough guy carjackers.

I have lived right on Alki Ave SW for 12 years. There is only one thing I have never seen in those 12 years. Police pulling someone over for a moving violation. Motorcycles going 60, 70, 80 mph and running down the middle where there are no speed bumps. Harley’s with straight pipes no mufflers pulling in their clutches and revving their engines every 60 seconds, unbelievably load radio’s, people hanging out of car window etc etc. The Pop, Pop, Pop of vehicles with timing set to put unburned fuel in hot exhaust systems. But NO LAW Enforcement. SPD is to blame for the current chaos on Alki Ave SW.

    • DRW May 3, 2026 (11:11 am)

Jack is spot on. SPD needs to get some motorcycle units down on Alki for the weekends.

    • Frog May 3, 2026 (5:13 pm)

SPD answers to its bosses, the mayor and city council.  If the bosses said clamp down on crime and disorder, and SPD refused or failed to do so, fine blame SPD.  But I don’t think that’s the case here.
