UPDATE: I-5 ramp to West Seattle Bridge reopened

1:40 PM: This has been going on a while but just hit our radar with a WSP tweet that the northbound I-5 ramp to the westbound West Seattle Bridge is still blocked and will be for a while because of that sideways truck. If you are south of here and have to head north, you’ll need to find an alternative.

2:22 PM: Thanks to John, who just sent that view of the attempt to right the sideways truck/trailer. WSDOT says it’s upright now but still needs to be towed.

3:05 PM UPDATE: Open again.

    Thanks, container jockey.

Just got the AlertSeattle text advising of this.

Oh NO! The driver of this truck is probably not having a good day. But also maybe learned a lesson about speed and corners. Lots of speedy semi trucks out there these days.

When you are paid per trip, there is always plenty of incentive to speed.   Plenty of incentive to queue up HOURS beforehand blocking the Spokane street viaduct to get the earliest possible load, for that matter.

I don’t think it’s fair to automatically blame the truck driver.  I see cars cutting off trucks frequently on the freeways.  I try to give trucks plenty of room and not to do anything abrupt when I am near them.

      Another ‘speed happy’ truck !!!!

There are also cases where the load is not balanced properly, and the driver is unaware due to a variety of factors. An unbalanced load is harder to keep upright than it is to tip.

Agree Lucy. They are more often better drivers than the rest of us.

I was right where this photo was taken when this happened, I watched it and called 911, he was in the left lane and I was thinking of passing ,but thankfully I didn’t!!

Always quick to blame the truck driver. Before you start the blame game try looking at that curve it is in no way sharp enough to have caused that truck to flip over more than likely. Some idiot in a Tesla being in a hurry to go nowhere cut him off. I see it multiple times a day here.

“Before you start the blame game” Indeed. Let’s not blame passenger car drivers then since we have no evidence which of the possibilities caused this.

Another obvious case of too fast for the corner. Trailer contents, load balance, etc are all irrelevant. Trust me….I have 45 years experience driving trucks of all shapes and sizes

    It’s simple. STOP SPEEDING

Sorry, comment time is over.
