TRAFFIC ALERT: More tree trouble

2:54 PM: Police are checking out another fallen tree – this one “blocking the whole roadway” in the 9400 block of 11th SW [map]. It reportedly has hit some utility lines too, though no outages are reported in the area yet.

Meantime, we don’t know if this is still an issue, but Karen messaged us to report what appeared to be a large tree limb blocking eastbound Barton west of 35th as of about an hour ago. We’re off to check on that.

3:17 PM: Barton is clear.

Are these coming down caused by nature or by people?

Nature. When its this dry out trees start falling.

Lack of rain. We are so far behind on rain I am surprised this hasn’t happened more.

What I’ve noticed in this dry spell are a lot of tree branches are hanging really low over sidewalks and roadways as if they are drooping from heat and lack of water. And these are well established older trees not just newly planted ones.

Trees collapse in this miserable heat and near-drought just like people. The wonderful Fall rains can’t get here fast enough.

There was also a limb at the SE corner of Raymond and Fauntleroy this AM that was blocking part of the northbound lane on Fauntleroy.
