TRAFFIC ALERT: Crash at 35th/Avalon

Thanks to Ian for the photo. Avoid 35th/Avalon for a while; police are directing traffic around the scene of a collision that is sending a motorcycle rider to the hospital. There’s also a fuel leak that has to be cleaned up. Tow trucks are on the way for the motorcycle and at least one vehicle that’s reported to have been involved.

I was at the front of the Habit drive through and have submitted my dash cam footage to the SPD. It was pretty intense — motorcycle traveling southbound on 35th, car turning left onto Avalon from 35th northbound.

The motorcyclist is my ex husband and father of my kids. I just wanted to reply to let anyone know that he’s alive and conscious but his pelvis is broken. Thank you to the other reply for turning in the dashcam footage. My friends are suggesting I make a gofundme so I might do that and post it here if that’s okay.

Yes, it is. Thank you for the update; I was planning to follow up with SFD this morning, though their info is usually limited to crash victims’ ages and whether they were in stable condition or not when transported. – TR

Hi Emily, I was with your ex until help arrived.  If you could, please let him know I’m relieved he’s pulling through.  If he’s ever wanting to fill any gaps about the experience I’d be happy to share what I know.Doug

Emily, thanks for the update, we drove through the intersection a little after it happened and we were so worried about him.  I hope he’s recovering well!

Emily, thanks so much for the update. We were also in the Habit drive thru and witnessed the horrible accident. I’ve been thinking about it non-stop, hoping that he was ok. If you create a Go Fund Me, we will definitely contribute.

I was at the scene at the moment of impact. Textbook example of a common collision that occurs. This intersection needs be studied, and re-engineered, to prevent future points of conflict.
