UPDATE: Another Westcrest Park fire

8:04 PM: Multiple texters are reporting another fire at Westcrest Park, again off 8th SW, again with fireworks blamed by neighbors, and one sent the photo above. Highland Park’s Engine 11 is logged to the call – this time categorized as “rubbish fire” – right now.

9:44 PM: Checking the log again, the call finally closed around 9 pm, after an hour and a quarter.

That’s no rubbish fire. It’s the same jerks who set the last one, most likely.

I saw the punks who did it and they were laughing as I yelled at them. As soon as they realized they started a fire, they took off. The cops really need to take this seriously. Someone could to get seriously hurt, and nobody with any kind of authority seems to care.

Un-freaking-believable. Enough is enough; law enforcement needs to bring down the hammer on these people.

Why don’t people understand dry conditions, no rain in weeks!, and fireworks are a bad combination?  Your freedom is not to burn things down!

I’m going to bet these are the same types that shoot people too and blame everyone else for why they do what they do.

Is there no designation for a fireworks fire, or is this an attempt by the city and SPD to deny the amount of damage done by their lack of enforcement?  As usual, it seems like the criminals are the only ones being protected.

Given the clear danger of such a large area of completely dry grass: maybe they should consider it arson instead, and get a stronger prosecution. This risks the lives and property of quite a few people in that area. Irresponsible behavior.  It needs a strong consequence for endangering people’s lives and property.! Thank you Seattle Fire ❤️

Is this fireworks again? Wish the city would enforce the fireworks ban. Tolerating the fire hazard is not acceptable.

It’s not all bad. The grass  has become to high an the city won’t cut it. Plus it’s dry an dead. But come next spring that location will be the greatest spot in the park

Last time we were at the Westcrest dog park, we noticed the grass in the main park area was a couple feet tall. Anyone know why it was so tall? Was it intentionally unmowed for pollinators? Was it a lack of budget to get someone out there with a lawnmower? Regardless,  making sure the grass is cut shorter by July 4th (more like a week or so before that) to prevent fireworks fires seems like a pretty good idea moving forward.

Ditto to that. An the city wants more parks which is great but how about just maintaining the ones we have. Doesn’t make sense to create  something beautiful an than not being able to maintain it.

Sorry, comment time is over.
