CRIME WATCH FOLLOWUP: Admiral stabbing/robbery suspect to get competency evaluation

(May 12th WSB photo by Christopher Boffoli)

We checked court records today to see if Admiral stabbing/robbery suspect Jiminson A. Calix-Bodden had been arraigned yet. Instead, we found he had appeared in court two days ago for a hearing in which his lawyer’s motion for a competency evaluation was granted. Calix-Bodden is the 25-year-old arrested after a man walking near California/Stevens was stabbed in a random attack on May 12th; Calix-Bodden was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, as well as with robbery for allegedly accosting a woman nearby to steal her phone. In court this week, Calix-Bodden’s lawyer contended he was not mentally competent to stand trial; Superior Court Judge Brian McDonald granted her motion for a review to determine if that’s true. He also ruled that Calix-Bodden, listed in court documents as a Tukwila resident, should stay in jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, and would be held on electronic home monitoring if he managed to get out on bond. His next hearing is set for June 12th.

He better NOT get out of jail.

Individuals like him are, unequivocally, an undisputed danger to society and should remain behind bars with the maximum sentence imposed.

Mental illness or not, him and others who cause great harm to the general public are NOT FIT to walk among the rest of us law abiding members of society.

NO SYMPATHY…Lock his a** up for good.

Agreed. His stabbing victim would have died without emergency surgery.

If he’s not mentally competent enough to stand trial, he’s not mentally competent enough to be out in public unsupervised.

      Yes, thank you!

I was stabbed in the past, working in the ER, by a mentally unstable person. Luckily it was only a superficial wound, but also a dramatic experience.

I am the robbery victim. He assaulted me also and I am so fearful. The poor man that out of no where got stabbed 5 minutes before he got to me. Home arrest oh hell no. Keep him off the streets.

I’m so sorry you had this traumatic experience , Patty. I hope you’re getting support and taking time for self care.

Ankle monitors are complete failure! Criminals simply cut them off and reap pure h on everyone

In our state, bail is a constitutional right, with limited exceptions. The judge has set a high bail, and has set a condition that, if violated, could lead to revocation of bail.

I no longer feel mental illness is any defense in crime, esp. violent crime.  Sane or not, if one is okay with inflicting violence on another, that’s not pathology, it’s a choice.  Plenty of non- violent mentally ill persons.  Lock violent criminals up, label them later for therapy in prison.

Sounds like you want to rewrite the system of laws that go back to the middle ages. Even people living over 800 years ago were capable of understanding the concept of a mental illness defense.

If that man is released he may run up on the wrong person, who will punch his ticket. People are TIRED of mentally unstable people running lose, making our community unsafe for children and adults. He needs to remain locked up in a high security long-term psychiatric facility where he can be medicated and receive the intensive therapy that he needs. He is still young it is not too late for him to get well.

Are you honestly advocating murdering people with mental illness?

      • Dishonest June 1, 2025 (12:50 am)

Nowhere in that comment did they even suggest something like that. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a blatantly dishonest strawman set up like that.

        • CAM June 1, 2025 (8:44 pm)

Unless HTC is suggesting that someone has a train ticket that will be validated by a conductor, “punch his ticket” is a perfectly clear euphemism for murder. Feel free to Google that.

And just to save you the time, here you go.

If this man is mentally unstable enough that he can’t stand trial: I sincerely hope that he gets the help and support he needs. That likely should mean that he is in a facility that can support his needs, while keeping him off the streets. This would be best for the individual and the public. (And cost less than throwing him in jail, which despite popular opinion, does not deter or decrease crime over time. No, I will not be answering questions, y’all can do your own research 😇)

Home monitoring?  The ankle monitor won’t restrain him.  Is he needing medication?  On street drugs?  Very dangerous fellow who might have fatally stabbed someone.  This guy needs serious containment.  And not just a get-out-of-jail-free card because he was off his prescribed meds.

Sorry, comment time is over.
