BIZNOTE: The Missing Piece moving to West Seattle Junction

2 PM: Thanks to Derek for the photo. The painting happening today on the southwest corner of California/Alaska gave us the opening to check back on a story we’ve been working on for a while: The Missing Piece Cafe and Game Lounge is finally confirming that it’s moving to The Junction – in the ex-Pharmaca space – from 35th/Roxbury. Last time we asked proprietor Alex about the plan, the lease wasn’t finalized yet and he wasn’t ready to comment, but today he tells WSB, “We are going to have an expanded cafe offering when we move as well as a wider game selection. We’re very excited to be moving to such a great spot in the heart of West Seattle!” Mindful that renovations and permits tend to take longer than businesspeople hope and plan for, we are nonetheless following up on their hoped-for timeframe for moving (update: by “the end of summer“). The Missing Piece opened in an ex-dispensary space on the northeast corner of 35th/Roxbury five years ago. In addition to simply being open for eating/drinking/playing, it also hosts various regular and special events.

3:23 PM: In comments, A points out that the painting is part of a mural for the business next door to the future new home of The Missing Piece, Emerald Water Anglers, which is chronicling the mural-painting here. You might recall that EWA is there because of a move too, shifting to the former Bin 41 space last year from its original spot at 42nd/Oregon. (We’re checking on what kind of signage TMP plans.)

I’m really happy about this news.  If anything, they should try to make the environment more comfortable and conducive to gaming.  I’m thinking specifically the Gamporium space that use to be in Uptown on Delridge.  The space on 35th always felt so sterile to us.

Uh, the people running “The Missing Piece” are the same that used to run the game podium.

I am fully aware of that. But the fluorescent lights and the overly bright atmosphere was not my jam. I’m hoping for something a little more cozy and comfortable

Happy for them, but we’ll miss them in the White Center area :( I’m sure they’ll be appreciated in the Junction.

Good for them….although will miss having them nearby

  • Marcus May 27, 2025 (2:40 pm)

Great news. The 35th location parking options were very limited.

    • B May 27, 2025 (11:32 pm)

At least there was a free lot for some. Good luck in the Junction! But the C line from original 35th spot is pretty good to get to the new spot. Unless you’re hauling hard drives or card stacks that make it tough?

I think I’ve paid for parking at the junction only once when it was extra busy for a holiday market. There’s so much street parking available in the area!

    • Tony May 28, 2025 (9:25 am)

There is an abundance of parking for free on 35th.

  • Gaius Baltar May 27, 2025 (3:00 pm)

That’s super disappointing. Sure it deserves a larger space, but I hope it doesn’t lose it’s quirky yet cosy charm that 35th/Roxbury brought to it.

Thats a pic of Emerald Water Anglers getting their new storefront painting? @ewaflyshop_seattle

    • WSB May 27, 2025 (3:22 pm)

They’re right next door, same building. Alex didn’t say it wasn’t theirs but I’d planned to go by later and see the progress, so thanks for clarifying sooner!

All good!  Accidentally giving EWA and Dave McCoy props too!  :)  Happy to see more vacnant spaces filling up again in the hood! Thanks for all you do WSB!

Awwwww, bummer. We really loved having Missing Piece in the south end, since the other option- Meeples- is also north. Will still come to visit, but might be a little less frequently. Best of luck and thank you for giving our community a fun place for all ages for the last few years.

    • CC May 27, 2025 (4:26 pm)

Same. :( I’m glad they’re doing well enough to move, but this takes away another great place to hang out down here.

  • Emily G. May 27, 2025 (4:55 pm)

I’m really happy about this! I’ve been missing weekly D&D since Meeples started charging for theirs (I’m unemployed and don’t have the cash to spend, it’s been really isolating)

    • Douglas Kilpatrick May 27, 2025 (5:58 pm)

They’ve got regular games at the existing location. Adventures League every Thursday

  • Corla May 27, 2025 (6:36 pm)

Yay but sad. It was nice having them up the street.

  • Critter May 27, 2025 (7:45 pm)

We will miss having them at 35th and Roxbury, hope another coffee shop fills the space, we really need one down here

    • anonyme May 28, 2025 (6:04 am)

We really need something down here.  Arbor Heights is a wasteland when it comes to services and transportation.

    • WS Res May 28, 2025 (9:25 am)

      It’s .4 miles up 35th to The Birdhouse….

      • pg May 29, 2025 (10:45 am)

Which isn’t super helpful if you are living down on 106th, and have already walked some distance to get to the corner of 35th & Roxbury

  • Jake May 28, 2025 (8:00 am)

I am a big fan of this mural. That building has so much surface area and was an ugly color before. Great idea EWA! Going to get fishing supplies from them when in the Junction next!

  • HTB May 28, 2025 (9:12 am)

Glad to see spaces getting filled (& the mural looks great!) I can’t help but notice, however, that most of the business / real estate moves in West Seattle are previous West Seattle businesses moving around. Whereas other neighborhoods (the Eastside, Ballard, Capitol Hill, even downtown) seem to be able to attract net new business. I think the Chamber/Junction Associations need to step up there game in this regard.

    • My two cents May 28, 2025 (7:29 pm)

HTB – just how should Chamber/Junction “step up”?

  • thee May 28, 2025 (9:35 am)

The artist doing the mural is Matt Delorme. He is a former fly fishing guide at EWA. Additionally, Matt did the woodcuts that illustrate West Seattle Author Steve Duda’s book, “River Songs.”
