TRAFFIC ALERT: Fauntleroy/Alaska work

You might want to avoid Fauntleroy/Alaska this afternoon, particularly if you’re heading toward the intersection from eastbound Alaska – the work crew that’s currently at the southeast corner has narrowed the lanes, so there’s a backup. Here’s a surface-level look at what they’re doing right now:

Some buses are rerouted off that stretch of Alaska because of the work, too, and the Metro advisory says that could last all weekend.

Any idea on why this work is being done? Maybe repair work after the recent storm?

We didn’t get an advance alert. The work that I photographed (while at the stoplight westbound) looked like *possibly* curb ramp work, going to go by later and look. Also saw a crew in lower Gatewood/south Morgan Junction doing curb work, but not affecting an arterial. It’s going to be prime time for road work soon …

There’s been a sign on one of the trees at the bus stop for a couple days saying that it may be necessary to remove it if the root structure interferes too much with “road repair.” I think I saw SDOT there marking the street midweek? There’s been a patched area in front of the bus stop for a while. It didn’t say exactly when the repair would be but as a frequenter of that stop I’m glad it’s on the weekend. Hopefully it’s finished by Monday morning.

I am glad to see from these photos that both trees are still there as of the time they were taken.

The reroutes are scheduled to end by Monday. Thanks for the note, it underscores a point I keep trying to make with transportation agencies, yes, that’s great if you directly inform users (e.g. bus riders) BUT many other people (e.g. drivers, bicyclists, non-bus-rider pedestrians) need to know too ….

Hopefully they are working on that concrete panel. It was severely popped up and I’ve caught my bike tire on it and nearly fell straight over

I verified today that a panel was replaced.

Hey can you get word on the Stop’s status this week? Looks still closed off and the advisory on Metro says the temp stop is Cali/Graham which is like a mile away?

Generally with this kind of weekend panel work they open it by Monday morning …

Sorry, comment time is over.
