Lincoln Park trail reopened

Thanks to Troy for the tip. Seattle Parks has reopened a West Seattle trail:

Good news! Our Trails Crew has been hard at work restoring the Lincoln Park North Bluff Trail, including repairing the staircase and retaining wall. We’re thrilled to announce that the trail is now REOPENED!

Thank you to everyone for your patience and support while we got everything back in shape.

Thanks so much for doing this. I’ve been walking down this path to the beach since 1966. The route has changed several times over the years, and it’s one of the best byways to the beach. Next time you walk that way, be sure to detour to a spot a few hundred feet east of the top of the trail, where you will find the remnant of a small concrete pond. It was built in the 1920s by James Rudolf, who worked for the Park Department and helped build the rose garden at Woodland Park. The pond, once full of lily pads and water skippers, was abandoned in the 1970s. During the windstorm of December 2006, trees fell on it, and the fountain that fed it and brought joy to so many children living in the area was smashed beyond recognition. Adding to the desecration, in 2024, the park started using it as a dump site for large stones. It’s still a beautiful spot—a bit of forgotten West Seattle history.

Thanks MC for this fun tidbit of history I’ll check this out next time I stroll here. I always love some Lincoln park stories and gems.

Just returned from walking the trail…Glad that it is re-opened with those two replaced steps.
But overall, the trail remains unsafe, untended and in decline.
Dozens of steps are compromised, large tree roots are exposed, switchbacks and corners eroded.
I hope Parks is able to address the whole trail before the heavy spring and summer use.

    Where is the handrail ?

It does look good but I’m not as sure of foot so a handrail would be nice.

there is a hanger over the path just east of that trailhead. It’s coming from the dying birch that  has succumbed to bronze Birch borers. It’s a larger branch chunk hanging in a very small one. These branches are small and extremely brittle now and it will not hold much longer. I’ve reported it to SPR 2 times since Friday but they haven’t removed it or even put up caution tape. Walker beware.
