WHALES: Orcas passing West Seattle

9:46 AM: Orcas were northbound in the Fauntleroy ferry lanes as of about 9:30 am, Kersti Muul reports via text. Let us know if you see them!

(Added: One of six photos uploaded in a comment by Svenry – see below)

10:17 AM: Update from Kersti – they’re approaching Alki Point. And they’re Southern Resident Killer Whales, from J-Pod.

Are these orcas swimming near the humpback whale that was confirmed to be injured or ill, as recently reported on WSB?

I seemed to arrived too late today, saw the watch crowd but not the orcas.

I am confused about Ilovealki’s  statement.
I could not find any WSB reporting about the recent humpback whale video being injured, or ill?

The humpback reported last Wed, and photographed off Brace Point by a member of Salish Wildlife Watch was not “confirmed” to be injured or ill by anyone who saw the whale.

“Ilovealki,” apparently you, speculated that it was injured or ill because it was in Puget Sound and near shore.  There are five species of whale that are commonly seen in the Salish Sea and Puget Sound, at least seasonally.  Few of them are injured or ill.

Just saw them! Plenty of people and loads of parking on Alki point healthy street as there has been for all whale sightings this year!

My wish is that orcas become the dominant species in the coming water world, after the planet sheds itself of the invasive and dangerous parasite known as homo sapiens. If they survive, that is.

It was a quick visit, but a great show and a good-sized crowd. The first two shots were from Constellation Park.

Oops, I guess I made a mistake while uploading. This was meant to be the first shot:

        Beautiful image capture, Sven.
What type of gear is needed for such sharp images at such long distances?

Thanks! Here’s one of the photos before being cropped. I used a Sony A6600 camera and a Sigma C 150-600mm lens. It’s really sharp!
