Hope it ends up not being serious. I am on the Rapid Ride C just south at Findlay. Driver is awaiting instructions on how to reroute.

Fire Department just let bus pass in opposite lane.

I wonder if there was more than 1 occupant? I drove up on this right after it happened and the occupant pictured got out with the help of other drivers prior to the fire department arriving. Not sure how the accident happened – I was 4 cars back or so but couldn’t see any other involved cars.. maybe he clipped a parked car or something?hopefully everyone is okay.

Very loud crash. One occupant. He is OK. A bloody nose and in shock however. Air bags went off.  Was driving up California AVE from the Morgan area. Clipped 2 cars. Got his wheel stuck under one and flipped. It has been cleared.

How on earth do you get your wheel stuck under a parked car? I have a hard time accepting that the driver was doing the speed limit to accomplish something like this.

Pictures don’t lie. It happened. And, as stated here MANY times speed doesn’t have to be that high.

People get distracted easily, usually a phone, but sometimes people are lost and trying to spot a building number or street name. As for the flip, it’s surprisingly easy. Tires have a good amount of traction on the road but a TON on another tire. When one tire meets another, like during a sideswipe, and they are moving in opposite directions or different speeds, one will climb the other and the results are unfortunately what we see here. Long story short, distraction + physics = easy flips

@citizen sane With the large number of SUVs and such, easy to see how a car could “catch” on the wheel/wheel well and then rebound/react to the forces which would be more in line of movement forward as opposed to most collisions where there are opposing forces working on a higher level.  Hard to see excessive speed being the primary factor behind this.

Subarus have a lot of body roll, they’re not as safe as they’re made out to be at all. I’ve rolled two of them, not on the street but on a track. Crap cars really

I lived on the corner when our car was sideswiped during rush hour. No one reported or stopped.  Another day at dark I was in the lit crosswalk when someone “stepped on it”, and made me run. I guess nothing’s change even back then.  1967

I continually hope that Darwinian survival evolution weeds out all these drivers that flip their cars. They lose their insurance and/or cannot afford a new car or hopefully learn a valued life lesson and become spokes people for the sane drivers club.  But alas, that does not appear to be a happening. Cars might be more tippy but really that just means drive slower and with much more caution, and stop driving like the seatbelts and airbags are the first defense.

Are you suggesting that everyone who gets in a car accident should die? That seems a bit extreme.

Learn how to drive. It’s not difficult. If you are incapable, walk or take a bus.

FOCUS. It boggles my mind how nonchalant some folks hurtle down the highway at 60+ mph or weaving through neighborhoods on the phone, eating, applying makeup while moving (really?), turning around to talk to people in the backseat (they can hear you just fine!), etc.  And unfortunately most will just get another car. And I haven’t even mentioned following traffic rules…

This car was stolen from our neighborhood in North Admiral. There is more to this story yet to unfold. Someone stole it on Sunday night and apparently swapped license plates before this accident happened. Our neighbors identified the totaled vehicle as theirs earlier today at the pound.

  • Fed up with thieves August 27, 2024 (9:36 pm)

The police are barely doing anything about this stolen car so far.
When this red Subaru was stolen from our neighborhood, another stolen
vehicle was dumped in its place.  That other vehicle contains stolen
mail from multiple different people and stolen prescription drugs.  We
reported that dumped vehicle right away.  When the plates don’t match or
come back stolen, doesn’t that warrant further investigation?

Meanwhile, this 31 year old occupant needs to be questioned and/or arrested for his involvement in the car theft.  Where is the driver?  Where are the police?

    • WSB August 27, 2024 (10:05 pm)

Hi, if the car’s owner can email us with info on the police report # for the theft, where the car was stolen from, and when they filed the report, I’d be happy to try to find out more. (we*************@***il.com) Typically officers run plates immediately upon arriving at collision scenes, and if the plates on this car didn’t match the make/model that would be immediately apparent. I was away from the desk when this happened so didn’t hear it “live” but will try to find the archived audio. Has the “dumped in its place” vehicle already been impounded, or otherwise returned to its owner? – TR
