BIZNOTE FOLLOWUP: Bel Gatto now open in Fauntleroy

7:32 AM: After two tips that Bel Gatto in Fauntleroy planned to open first thing this morning, we just went down to 9253 45th SW, and indeed, it’s open. This is the new bakery-and-more eatery in the space where The Original Bakery closed a year ago.

Proprietor Peter Levy of Chow Foods – which also operates Endolyne Joe’s next door – announced earlier this month that Bel Gatto (“a handsome cat”) was close to opening, and provided these details on what it’s offering.

Hours will be 7 am-7 pm for starters, seven days a week.

9:56 AM: A few amendments to that in the early going. We heard back this morning from Peter Levy, who explains, “We are not yet fully operational and will have a limited menu given that we are still without a ventilation hood. We hope to be in full swing by mid-March.” And thanks to Loren for sending a pic of a sign now posted saying Bel Gatto will be closed the next two Mondays (March 4 and 11), hoping for that hood installation on the second one, which will enable them to offer bombolini.

    Oh Dang!  This looks great!

Early morning trip to the bakery for a story. Wow. Tough gig! :-)

  • Westwood February 29, 2024 (10:27 am)

Please tell me there will be cannoli.

Exactly!  First Pantarelli opened, which turned out to be a one-note French bakery – not Italian as the name would imply.  The photos shown above don’t look like Italian pastry.  I don’t know why it’s so difficult to find cannoli in Seattle…!

Does the cafe at Casa Italiana/Italian Cultural Center (in Burien) have cannoli?  I just recently heard about the cafe there and that it is delicious- but haven’t been there yet to see what is on the menu.

        Indeed they do!

Thanks, Westwood!  I’m looking forward to checking it out!

I was in today and there were three types of cannoli available

Looks fantastic and I can’t wait to visit!  You should also offer the Bismark donut in honor of the Original Bakery.  It would be a nice addition to your menu.  :-)

YES!!! I loved the Bismarks and I was so sad when the Original closed.

    • JP February 29, 2024 (3:19 pm)

Eh, those were good but the Bismark doughnut is ubiquitous.  Their Buttermilk doughnuts on Thursday mornings were second to none.

Yes! The buttermilks kept me going there on a weekly basis. Towards the end I was special-ordering them by the dozen! If they can get hold of that recipe they’ll have a return customer for life!

Looks like a great place to hit up before catching the ferry!

  • Seattlite February 29, 2024 (12:51 pm)

What great looking baked goods and such a nice space!  I will check it out.

  • Hungry! February 29, 2024 (1:36 pm)

OOOOoooo great to have a local place to stop for breakfast treats on the way to work that’s not in the busy junction or a Starbucks! Can’t wait to try it out!

@anonyme, the place on Lake City Way is the only place that I can think of that does a good cannoli. It would be lovely to have a place that does cannoli in West Seattle again. (Abbondanza did, but that’s been gone for a while.)

    Can’t wait to go!

  • D March 1, 2024 (2:58 am)

I’m so excited for this! Hopefully they have pistachio croissants 😋

  • Doerte March 1, 2024 (8:10 am)

They had pistachio cannoli yesterday. Those were delicious.

  • Helpermonkey March 1, 2024 (8:17 am)

I hope they bring back the bran muffin from the Original Bakery. Literally the most sinful “good for you” there was.

  • C March 1, 2024 (8:41 am)

Just stopped in- it has a lovely vibe, everyone is friendly, the food is delicious and the coffee was wonderful. Looking forward to eventual lunch and dinner service!!!

  • Gina March 1, 2024 (10:30 am)

There was nothing but crumbs remaining of that good looking pastry by 11 am yesterday, Fauntleroy folks have evidently been baked good deprived!

  • Rachelle March 1, 2024 (11:45 am)

Stopped in for coffee and a pastry this AM. So yummy! We definitely go back for pizza/sandwiches soon.

  • Jalen March 1, 2024 (8:39 pm)

Darn. I just got diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Can’t eat this stuff anymore.  But if they bring back anything from the Original Bakery, well, life’s short, I’ll be right back in there. 🙂

My morning mocha and twice baked almond cornetto were delicious. Friendly staff! Looking forward to trying more of their menu, and to have the overhead glass doors open in warmer weather. Welcome to the neighborhood!

  • Ch March 3, 2024 (9:41 pm)

I had two different scones and honestly… best scones I have ever had!!!

  • CM March 5, 2024 (8:54 pm)

Any idea if there will be gluten free items offered?

Sorry, comment time is over.
