BACK TO SCHOOL: Here’s who starts Tuesday

As we’ve been noting since mid-August, some students are already back in class. Most of those who aren’t yet are about to be. Here’s who starts tomorrow (Tuesday, September 5th):

Tilden School (WSB sponsor)

Hope Lutheran School

Holy Rosary Catholic School

Holy Family Bilingual Catholic School

The Bridge School

Watch out for more people walking and biking, and more traffic in general in school zones.

Wishing ALL the kids a great school year.  FYI:  There is a  sign campaign called “Slow The Flock Down 25MPH.”  Unfortunately, West Seattle has these signs placed on residential streets that are designated by WA State Law as 20MPH.  These misplaced signs could influence a driver to speed on residential streets which is a safety issue.  There is a BIG difference between Arterials which are designated as 25MPH zones versus residential streets that are designated as 20MPH.  An Arterial has a broken yellow center line.  Residential streets do not have a broken yellow center line.  I have notified the city about the misplaced signs in West Seattle.  The intersection of 46th Avenue S.W. and Stevens Street SW are residential streets.  The rounder in this intersection has about four of five of the signs that ask drivers to drive 25MPH in a 20MPH zone.  Please everyone be safe.

I live in a school zone on a residential street (no camera) and would be thrilled if drivers slowed down to 25mph, though 20 is ideal, obviously. Unfortunately, school being back in session means more pedestrian conflicts for our family due to the irresponsible driving from parents and caregivers. Sigh.

Many folks picked up these signs at our WS street fair with good intentions for their residential streets not realizing they were meant for arterials…. Just a marker and a moment to change the 5’s to 0’s (twice)…  the owners will likely appreciate the correction.

Sorry, comment time is over.
