Thanks to everyone who sent photos from what Seattle Fire dispatched as a “brush fire” sweeping across a slope at Westcrest Park about an hour ago. SFD sent Engine 11, which was on scene for about 20 minutes.
No injuries reported, and no word on the cause – SFD did not send its investigator – but it’s a reminder of just how dry things are right now.
I was the one who called it in to 911. I was headed to the dog park when I saw a man with a backpack (who fled on a bike) tinkering with something near where the fire started. I watched him for a minute continue to blow on the brush and then he rode off before the firefighters arrived. I asked dispatch if they wanted a description of said person or if they wanted me to stay and the person said no.
Seriously? Probable arson and they don’t want a witness statement? Wow! Thank you for being suspicious and calling 911!
I would report again. It seems strange that they wouldn’t want the description of a possible arsonist.
@Leah, Was this guy wearing long shorts that were ripped completely out in the rear? If so we saw him at McClendon’s in WC, he stole something and then walked out and got onto a bike that was stashed at the KFC . He had a backpack and was headed in direction of Westcrest Park. Could be an assumption on my part but just saying…
