About the military jets over West Seattle

1:14 PM: For those who are asking: Still looking for official confirmation but this is one of those things on which we can make an educated guess: Seahawks pregame flyover.

1:26 PM: A reporter covering the game verifies the flyover.

Love it. They flew right past us at slow speed on their way to the game.

  • Kera September 19, 2021 (2:14 pm)

Love that when they did vibrate my home!! Thanks to these pilots!!

  • Graciano September 19, 2021 (2:15 pm)

Sorry Goose, But It’s time to buzz the tower…

For someone with ptsd, hearing those jets is crippling.  Sports funded jet flyovers should be banned.

Jets causing PTSD? To who? Pilots? Frequent flyers? Traveling salespeople? To soldiers on the ground, arriving friendly air support is one of the most-welcome sounds in the world. What IS likely PTSD-inducing are the fireworks being lit off after every touchdown.

      • Mr J September 19, 2021 (3:29 pm)

PTSD for people that when they hear that noise an air strike is coming. This country has been bombing people for decades and many have be able to relocate here and yes this is well documented to cause PTSD. It’s also a complete waste of money and resources for the Libertarians out there.

I’m from Cambodia and the sound of jets means my family won’t have to flee THIS country for our lives again.

            Love this

@StopBeingHeartless,     regardless of how someone suffers from PTSD, you shouldn’t belittle them.      I can fully understand why the sound of a military jet can ignite PTSD in a military person or an immigrant from a war torn country.

It might shock you to know that plenty of people who live in the area have also been on the receiving end of imperialism

I was briefly in a war zone when I was five, and those jets today were making me pretty anxious. We weren’t even there when things got bad, because we had the privilege to quickly leave at the start. I’m in my mid-30s and the sound still made me very uncomfortable, checking the sky to make sure everything is okay, etc. I can’t imagine how it is for someone who was older than five in an experience like that, around those sounds longer, or was in a more active war zone.

Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full.

Part of the reason, albeit a minuscule part, our military budget approaches $1 trillion. But the important part is that people are titillated by flovers over their gladiatorial games.

    • James September 19, 2021 (4:10 pm)

I agree. Jingoism that costs so much money while many are houseless. This country is backwards.

      • Neighbor September 19, 2021 (5:05 pm)

Are you suggesting the homeless should join the military?  Seems inhumane.

        • James September 19, 2021 (6:27 pm)

Absurd. I’m suggesting the money not spent on military toys when people are dying on the streets.

    • Neighbor September 19, 2021 (5:04 pm)

These flyovers come out of the training budget so they would be happening anyway.

      • James September 19, 2021 (6:10 pm)

Training for what? More violence in other countries? It’s a waste of money.

        • Bradley September 20, 2021 (12:05 pm)

          How quickly people forget 9/11.

  • Excited September 19, 2021 (3:32 pm)

I happened to be in Georgetown when the jets were landing at Boeing Field. That was loud!

  • TJ September 19, 2021 (4:28 pm)

These flyovers don’t cost any money as it has been said numerous times that the pilots have to continuously train. These are combined into that. And these comment threads where people cite ptsd are never the ones actually suffering it. Lets here from them. I have 2 friends that are gulf war vets and these don’t bother them. What is probably more annoying is these obnoxious modified cars buzzing around at all hours

    • Del September 19, 2021 (5:31 pm)

Most people are too embarrassed to talk about their ptsd. That’s why you don’t hear them talk about it much -if at all.

      • human September 19, 2021 (11:45 pm)

I am a gulf war vet with ptsd. I can attest that loud cars at odd hours are more triggering than the occasional jet fighter in the daytime, for me at least. Trigger events for me are things that don’t come from a military source, but sound like it. I know what to expect from a fighter jet or a tracked vehicle, but something like a kid jumping on a bed upstairs from me can sound like artillary and cause great distress.

    • Just wondering September 19, 2021 (5:45 pm)

I agree.  I am also tired of music played so loud in a car that it vibrates my car.

      • Miami Vice September 19, 2021 (11:09 pm)

I find it fascinating that many things from the 1980’s seem to be returning. The loud bass music from cars being one of those things. What’s next, parachute pants?

  • Sunflower September 19, 2021 (9:21 pm)

Can we talk about the environmental costs of things like this?

  • Peter September 19, 2021 (10:11 pm)

Obnoxious and wasteful. I’m 100% against the ongoing hyper-militarization of our society. This needs to stop.

    • Spencer September 20, 2021 (8:57 am)

I agree. The jets are cool, though.  They’re more like big, expensive toys than like military equipment in a context like this.

  • 1994 September 19, 2021 (10:48 pm)

We heard, and saw, these 2 jets while out for a walk…..I wondered if there was an urgent need for the buzzing and circling above the Sound, like an emergency response to ….

  • GoodSpaceGal September 20, 2021 (12:11 am)

I can’t get enough of the fighter jets. So proud of our Air Force, USMC, and Navy pilots and our Army chopper crews. My husband flew Fat Albert with the Blue Angels. Thanks for the quick air show, guys/gals.

    • eeeeeee September 20, 2021 (9:12 am)

I love it also!!!! To me, what i hear is FREEDOM!!! I’m a veteran also.

  • Dr. No September 20, 2021 (10:49 am)

Like clockwork, every time a fly over happens the what about the environment!? What about the homeless!? What about the budget!? It scares my pets! It causes anxiety! The orca!  Crowd pipes up. Relax, it ain’t about you. It’ll be over in a second and your day will continue just fine. It’s a flyover and most of us think they’re pretty cool.

    • wscommuter September 20, 2021 (1:57 pm)

      Perfect.

    • arschgesicht September 20, 2021 (2:01 pm)

Most of us think they’re annoying.

Sorry, comment time is over.
