WHALES: Orcas in the area again (video, photo added)

1:33 PM: Donna Sandstrom from The Whale Trail just called to say Orca Network is reporting that transient orcas are southbound, passing Blake Island right now – close enough to the other side of the Sound that you’d want to look through binoculars. As always – let us know if YOU see them too! (Added – video from readers who did see them while out on the water:)

6:58 PM: Kersti Muul from Salish Wildlife Watch says the whales are now in Elliott Bay, headed toward downtown! (Added, David Hutchinson‘s photo taken while they were in the bay:)

If this video doesn’t go viral, I don’t have faith in the internet any more…this guy deserves a medal. “Enjoy this! You will never see this again!” 😆

I like how he’s continually reassuring his kids that it’s gonna be okay. I know when I was little, seeing a giant whale that close to me on the open water would be terrifying as all heck (even now…)

Amazing sighting, so cool, thank you to the reader for sharing your video!

Also so interesting the fear reaction to something so rare and powerful like an orca! It makes sense these kids and the paddle boarders being nervous, but orcas really seem peaceable and curious towards humans, in my experience.

I’ve been close enough in the wild to make eye contact with one, it’s a feeling I’ll never forget.

Sorry, comment time is over.
