WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Gunfire investigation

10:01 PM: We didn’t hear an initial dispatch on this, so details are few, but police have SW Holden closed right now at 26th Place SW [map] for a gunfire investigation. They’ve told dispatch that they’ve found multiple shell casings of different calibers, stretching several blocks westward. A witness is reported to have told police someone was shooting out of a westbound vehicle’s window. No report of injuries.

10:29 PM: Per radio exchange, they’re reopening Holden. They’ve also heard from someone who lives elsewhere in West Seattle and says their vehicle was shot at and has bullet holes.

I’m the witness. I was standing on my porch when I heard it. Sounded like a sports car or motorcycle but it was a lot of shots, fired quickly. Is this what life has come to?

Things have certainly changed here, Seattle has around 50 homicides. On the bright side, we’re not Chicago who have over 600 homicides this year already.

Yes, but Chicago has about 4 times Seattle’s population, so we’d have about 200 homicides if we were as populated. We’ve had ~ 25-29 homicides every year from 1995 to 2019, so we’ve basically doubled that average in one year. Our city leaders have failed to the point where people are actually dying unnecessarily.

I was driving down 35th Ave SW, northbound when this was all happening.  As I proceeded to cross the Morgan street intersection a sports car blew by me at a very high rate of speed.. also going northbound on 35th Ave SW.

Oh, the sports car probably always does that. It’s 35th, drivers think it’s a freeway.

Call SPD and give them a description.

The area has become a war zone . Defunding the police department in times like these is complete insanity.good luck out there to all the tax paying law abiding citizens may god bless us all !!

Thank you Chris O for standing up for the community and yourself. It’s only the ‘new normal’ if we let it become that way. I’m here tugging on the rope with ya bud, as are many others.

I thought I heard 2 shots fired at 9:45. This is the 4th time in about a month I’ve heard what I thought was gunfire. When I check the blog, I see that I was right. Sad days. After 30 years of living in Seattle, I’m very close to leaving…

Yes Lisa, I’m right there with you. 13 years here and raising two young children. I need to live somewhere I feel safe.

Kind of wish Lisa Herbold would put as much focus on this recent gun violence in our community rather than supervised drug use sites and the decriminalized of corresponding crimes.

I live at 30th and Holden and had just arrived home.  Heard what I thought were very loud fireworks and wondered if the Seahawks were playing.  Guess not.  Yikes!

Depending on what happens Tuesday, the question is becoming whether to leave Seattle or leave the country.  Our government is broken at every level.  Herbold is our lowest level example; unfortunately, an influential one for us.

Sorry, comment time is over.
