ROAD WORK/TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Friday notes, 12th week of West Seattle Bridge closure

6:07 AM: Good morning – the 81st morning without the high-rise West Seattle Bridge. Remember that the Delridge Way repaving-and-more project has begun – here’s our latest update.

Now on to the cameras for the 5-way intersection, and the restricted-access low bridge just east of it:

The main detour route across the Duwamish River is the 1st Avenue South Bridge (map) – which has up to 14 overnight closures planned next month, as announced Tuesday. Meanwhile, here’s that camera:

The other major bridge across the river is the South Park Bridge (map) – this camera shows the SP-side approach:

Check the @SDOTBridges Twitter feed for info about any of those bridges opening for marine traffic.

You can see all local traffic cams here; locally relevant cameras are also shown on this WSB page.

TRANSIT

Metro – Check the Twitter feed for any breaking service changes. Otherwise – still on the reduced schedule and reduced capacity; check here for next departure. Note that Metro and WT service will increase June 22nd.

Water TaxiReduced schedule continues

As evidenced in your 6:07 traffic photo, people are confused by the right way to navigate their new routes. The new paint doesn’t seem to help this driver. Hard to say if their nav system helped or confused them today. It will take a while before all drivers get used to these confusing intersections. Another though spot seems to be between West Marginal Way and Michigan Ave.

Police need to revisit the low bridge entrance by Chelan. I see a lot of personal vehicles using the low bridge lately, in person and on traffic cameras. I know I can file a request online but I haven’t had much luck with that over the years.

Driving (yes I drive) from along east Marginal, currently stopped at the open draw bridge on 509, the number of inconsiderate, selfish and dangerous driving I have seen is appalling. I think drivers being forced to a near standstill for years to come will do everyone some good and be better for public safety. You can drive recklessly if you can’t go anywhere. It’s really too bad, for drivers like me, who try to do the right thing to make this better for everyone.

Amazing with the 1st Ave S bridge up at 1:30 today there was no throughout. Exiting north bound traffic off of 509 backed up onto highway.Eastbound traffic accessing 509 backed up all the way to Delridge.Traffic queuing on SE 8th backed up to SW Henderson.

I’m trying to be a good citizen when driving the long way round home from downtown to Admiral so it is frustrating to see many who do not by taking the low bridge to West Seattle this afternoon (and I am sure every afternoon), waiting at the 5-way intersection stoplight with no cares in the world. The devil on my shoulder is making it very tempting whispering “if they are, why not you?”  End rant…

Honest question: Why does what someone else does determine what you do?

Think of how fun it will be getting around  when all of the cops are run out of town…

Sorry, comment time is over.
