SPORTS: Postseason basketball, night 1

Three postseason high-school basketball games tonight:

(WSB photo: Chief Sealth #1, Cortez Graham)

Chief Sealth International High School – boys lost to Franklin, 57-50; girls lost to Nathan Hale, 45-22

West Seattle High School, boys lost to O’Dea 77-50

Only one game was at home, the CSIHS boys’ game, so we were there, and will add photos from that a bit later.

ADDED EARLY TUESDAY: The Seahawks kept it close until literally the last minute – just one point behind – but a technical foul cost them dearly. Top scorer for Sealth was (top photo) Cortez Graham with 19 points. Next was Taien Jackson with 14, including four 3-pointers:

That’s the season wrap for Head Coach Colin Slingsby and team.

The Sealth girls’ season is over too. … Meantime, the West Seattle girls play at Bainbridge 7 pm tonight (Tuesday), while the WSHS boys play Rainier Beach at Franklin on Thursday at 5:45 pm.

O’Dea totally dominated and outclassed WS.  Student section for WS chanted numerous immature insults at the O’Dea team, but I am happy with the score.

    Go Irish!

I am pretty neutral about the outcome of this game; but i have to agree with the poor class i’ve seen from the WSHS  student section this year.  When they have lost and when they have won. Not sure what presence the WSHS administration has at games; but i noticed O’Dea staff monitoring their students pretty closely.BTW: if your going to be annoying; try not to get blown out by 20+ points every time you lose.Metro League basketball is fun to watch.

Keep working hard WSHS boys!! Proud to see your diligence and fight! On to the next.. Beach at Franklin, Thursday 545p.

As for the comments above .. I disagree with most of the degrading observations above. I think we have endured exceptional disrespect over the years from O’Dea… even when we’ve beat them in years past. So, try to lead by example and show what you would expect from high schoolers..if you are adults.

    GO WILDCATS !!! 💙💛

Well said Elissa.  Odea and Seattle Prep student body are the most annoying and disgraceful basketball fans in metro conference.  I cringed hearing their disgusting chants over the years.

Sorry, comment time is over.
