TRAFFIC ALERT: Stuck truck in Highland Park

Thanks to the tipster who reports, “There’s a semi-truck stuck on the curve of 20th Ave. SW/21st Ave. SW headed toward the 7-11 on SW Holden. Police have it blocked off.”

I’ve seen people take 40 ft dovetail trailers up that hill. I have personally taken 24 foot trailers up that hill. However, 53 Footers are a no-go

i encountered the detour coming home. Why the … is a 18 wheeler even trying that route. Maybe they need signage to aid.

Signage shouldnt be necessary, better driver training should. Granted in a big right turn like that in a tractor with a sleeper, rear visability goes down the tubes. But the driver had to know that it was going to be tight, and if he couldnt see that the trailer axles were going to make it, set the brakes and go look before its too late. And if they had to back out, block traffic with their triangles and go slow. Not bashing truck drivers, I’m a dump truck driver.

I’ve noticed google and Waze prefer the hairpin turn on 20th to Holden rather than the Orchard/Dumar/Austin way to 16th. Sure it’s faster in the morning because of the backups with the lack of protected left at 16th & Holden but semi trucks coming and going to Home Depot are now going that way.

The truck lost the clutch and couldn’t go at all.  I live on this street and these trucks shouldn’t be allowed. It happens 2- 4 times a year.  With traffic like it is,  go up orchard.  The driver received a very nice ticket for blocking the road.

Sorry, comment time is over.
