Words of thanks, from the Southwest Precinct

Sent tonight by Southwest Precinct commander Capt. Pierre Davis, a message for you:

In the wake of the recent officer-involved shootings across the country and the most recent tragedy resulting in the deaths of several law enforcement officers in Dallas Texas, we again find ourselves heartbroken and shaken to the core.

But in this time of bewilderment, shock and sadness, we find ourselves humbled and blessed to have a fantastic Seattle community that will not only continue to partner with their officers, but will also provide comfort, understanding and continuing dialog with hopes of strengthening the bond between their officers and the community.

Since the occurrence of the aforementioned incidents, our West Seattle community to include our local West Seattle media, has again shown us why they are world class. The undying compassion, support and partnership exhibited to your officers is and continues to be second to none. Your West Seattle officers are truly humbled, blessed and privileged to serve all of you who have chosen to be the guardians of your guardians.

With the utmost pride and admiration, we thank you!
Capt. Pierre Davis and your West Seattle Officers

The tone of this message is so beautiful. Love the mutual respect conveyed, and the acknowledgment of loss to the people affected by ALL of the recent losses. This letter needs to be the template for community building in precincts across the country. Hats off SW.

It was great to have the SW Precinct officers walking and talking everywhere during the SummerFest this past Friday-Sunday. We are, indeed, fortunate here in West Seattle. Captain Davis and his team are essential and integral members of our community. Thank you Capt. Davis!

Yesterday after work I had to stop at the store to get some milk. As the lady was ringing me up she saw my Seattle Police Dept. I.D. badge and mistakenly thought I was a police officer, and she thanked me for what I did. I told her that even though I work for the Seattle Police Dept. I wasn’t an officer and showed her where it says civilian in the corner of my I.D. I assured her though that I would pass along her message to all of the police officers I work with, as I am sure that they would appreciate hearing that.

Thank you SPD for all of your great service 24/7.  Whenever I get a chance, I thank SPD officers for their service knowing the dangers they are confronted with 24/7.

We are very lucky to have the wonderful officers we have here.  I know first hand how their kind and humane attitudes effect you when you need the police the most.  Thank you, Southwest Precinct!

Ditto what all seven messages above me stated.   Love the SW Precinct and all who work for us in any capacity there.  You all do a terrific job!

Thanks Southwest Precinct. Glad to have the hardworking officers protecting our beautiful peninsula. You put your lives on the line every day for us. If we are in trouble, you are the first to arrive. You are special people and we are lucky to have you. It is up to all of us to help devise safe and workable protocol for how to best serve our communities  If you do not have the correct training, we cannot heap the blame on to our police departments. Our leadership must be strong and articulate. If something does not work, it is up to all of us to create a task force and implement immediate measures. It must be well thought out. If we are to be a civil society, we must treat our citizens with civility. That may sound like flowery language, but it is the opposite. It is straight forward. Having had the opportunity to teach others the rules of our society, we ask them to be their best selves. We must also be willing to walk the walk…each and every one of us. Thanks for helping us to build a better community.
