West Seattle Crime Watch: Home shot at, no one hurt

(WSB photos by Patrick Sand)
8:36 PM: No one is said to be hurt, but somebody is reported to have shot at and into a house near Delridge Way/SW Findlay a short time ago, with police confirming bullet holes (as heard over the radio). We haven’t heard a suspect description yet. More as we get it.

8:55 PM UPDATE: Our crew at the scene has confirmed with police that multiple shots hit the house (which is on 23rd) and that no one is hurt. We’ve also just heard a potential vehicle description, blue or black SUV, unknown make/model, was “full” of people but no description of them, last seen southbound on Croft Place.

2:19 PM THURSDAY: We had requested the report on this – it’s since shown up summarized on SPD Blotter:

A teenage boy narrowly escaped injury during a drive-by shooting … Wednesday night.

The 17-year-old victim told police he was standing in front of a convenience store around 8 PM with an acquaintance, near Delridge Way Southwest and Southwest Findlay, when a black or dark blue SUV drove by and its occupants stared at them. When the car made a U-turn, both of them started running.

The victim ran into his nearby home and his acquaintance kept running. After dashing into his house, the victim heard several gunshots. Police found several bullet holes in the teen’s home, which was occupied by five other people including an 11-month old baby and a 12-year-old. Bullet fragments were found inside the home. No one was injured.

Gang Unit detectives are investigating.

Heard it from 5000 block Delridge. Sounded like more than one gun as the pops were, as you often hear, like firecrackers. Probably 8-10 rounds fired. WTF!

I heard it also about 15 minutes ago around 8:40pm was on the back deck. I am north of Alaska junction about 3 blocks. Was about 6 or more thought it was fireworks but also something else maybe.

Heard this as well up at 34th Ave SW as well. Seems like I’m hearing this more these days. Glad no one was hurt.

Lovely. Now we get drive by shootings. WTF

    WSB,

WHat is your analysis of current stats on gunshots?

Are there more gun shots confirmed in SW Precinct lately? Are there more people calling in about gunshots or firecrackers?

Just curious if you have been tracking that since Findlay mentioned more frequency of gun or gun-like sounds.

We published this last week, including the one-month tally of shots-fired incidents in SW Precinct on a citywide map showing shots fired incidents confirmed between early Dec. and early Jan.).

It’s only a map, though, and publicly accessible files do not show all five of the marked WS incidents (the sixth is in South Park). The only ones I can match are the New Year’s Eve shots fired through the window of a business in south Morgan Junction and one case showing in the system (but not on the police-reports map) for December 18th at 29th/Brandon, don’t believe we heard about that one when it happened – the system has a bare-bones report, no details, just “weapon discharged.”

Anecdotally, they don’t seem to be any more or less common than they’ve been for a while. In every sector, people report gunshot-like sounds that turn out to be fireworks (especially, but not limited to, the Seahawks victory fireworks) …

Is this why there is a heli circling over 7700 block of Highland PK way?

  • gun discharges January 14, 2015 (10:07 pm)

I missed that prior report last week. thanks. Why are only some shots posted on their map? What’s their criteria, if any?

Also, did you have a chance to follow up on the gun shot detection device status? THAT’d be timely at this point. Yes? tia

I think I heard them as well, but wrote it off as fireworks which have been going of almost daily recently. (S. Delridge area)

Guardian One is out and about looking for things to do. They heard a radio call about a possible burglary alarm in Highland Park, checked out the area, saw no one, were cleared to leave, within a matter of just a couple minutes.

The house that was shot at always has young thugs around that area and that block I’m not one bit surprised, I live right down the street and I walk a lot in the area.

I’m pretty sure I heard what sounded like 2 gunshots while at the stoplight on 8th and Roxbury. It was around 9:20 last night.

Holly crud it’s a war zone. Very scary considering how many kiddos are in the area.

    Any word on a motive?

I had been asking for the report and now there’s a summary on SPD Blotter, so I’ll be adding the info above.

I thought I-594 was supposed to end these “gang bangers” from getting guns?
I can’t go to the forest and swap guns with a co-worker to shoot, but these sub-humans have no problem getting them.
I-594 is sure putting a dent in the “illegal” gun trade out there!!!!

based on the governors new laws coming out people shooting up houses like this are property crimes and would not be put into jail but would be more ‘supervised’ as their punishment…..like that’s gonna work

Sorry, comment time is over.
