Traffic alert for Highway 99/Viaduct because of downtown protest

First we got a text saying that protesters downtown were blocking the Seneca offramp from the Alaskan Way Viaduct; minutes later, a tweet suggested the protest was wrapping up, but now Seattle Police just tweeted:

No word how long this might last, but if you’re downtown trying to get to The Viaduct or vice versa, now you know.

P.S. Just a reminder that a *scheduled* closure of Highway 99, both ways, is still on for late tonight/early tomorrow morning, 11:59 pm-5 am.

Sometimes there are agitators specially hired (you can fill in the blank on who has an agenda) to make peaceful protesters look bad. It’s been proven in many a demonstrations.

And I’m sick and tired of reading from fascists who can’t spell. When the police would stop “disrupting” the lives of innocent 12-year old boys, 55-year old men, and others, then I’ll worry about your poor inability not to get where you’re going as soon as possible.

John, I firmly think that sometimes people’s lives need to be interrupted for a bit, instead of their “business as usual”, I don’t care about whatever they’re protesting attitude. We all need a wake-up at times.

I’m very proud to see people exercising their right to peaceful assembly in my city. Likewise I’m very disappointed (but not surprised) that there are always people who want to bring violence and aggression into the scene.
While there’s most definitely a legitimate cause for these protests, it really sucks to see so much negativity towards the police in general. It’s not from everybody but it’s there and it’s intense. Police are just people like you and me with a job to to. A very important job that should require a very high level of accountability.
I believe that the majority of people are good but you always have a few on either side that go too far.
I know this cause is even deeper and gets into larger systemic problems. It gets into the justice system itself and society.
Anyway, what I really want to say is that being a police officer is not an easy job and if there are any cops that end up reading this: THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for doing your job every day and upholding the law. For serving and protecting the people of this city. Lets all do our part in any way we can to not let the bad apples spoil the bunch. On either side.
Come on now, all lives matter. We’re better than all this violent junk… Alright now I’m stepping off my soapbox.

Sorry, comment time is over.
