West Seattle Crime Watch: Police investigate Junction vandalism

12:59 AM: Police are in The Junction right now after a brazen act of vandalism – a witness tells us someone walking by smashed a window at Talarico’s. No reports of injuries, so far. Radio communication says staff ran after the vandal to try to catch him. We’re hearing about a possible suspect stopped on the west side of The Junction but not sure yet if it’s the same incident. You’ll recall that other business windows have been smashed in the area recently, most notably the nonprofit Discovery Shop, so that potentially raised the profile on this call. We’ll update with whatever else we find out.

1:11 AM: Added photos from WSB’s Katie Meyer, who was told at the scene by a staffer that the vandalism apparently resulted from a disgruntled patron so upset at being “cut off” that he picked up a nearby “no parking” sign and smashed it against the window. The staffer also confirmed someone was in custody.

wow, maybe they needed to be cut off earlier.

Glad somebody’s in custody over it. How awful. A year ago I moved to the Junction area, and in this past year I am feeling less and less safe when walking alone there at night, which is really a shame.

Life Tip: If your immediate reaction to being told you can’t have any more alcohol is to throw a street sign at a plate glass window, you may have at least one, if not several, debilitating mental issues including substance abuse and mental rage.

@Brian: I just logged on to say the exact same thing. Talarico’s is pretty darned generous about letting people get fairly drunk before being cut off. You pretty much have to already be falling down drunk. If your reaction to being cut off is that level of rage, it’s time to take a good hard look at your drinking, buddy.

Plot twist: the window smasher was cut off from ordering more pizza. He’s violently lactose intolerant.

I was sitting at the table along the window directly to the left of the one that was smashed. The guy first walked by and reached his arm in the open window and smacked the inside of the wall. It was weird, then as were had moved on in conversation SMASH! It startled the crap out of us! We had some glass on us and our table but the table next to us caught the brunt of it. They were literally covered in glass and one guy’s leg was bleeding. This idiot should be charged with assault! It could have been way worse that was a HUGE plate glass window to be smashed right on innocent people!!!

PS – I do not in any way feel unsafe in the Junction. This was an isolated drunk idiot.

Sorry, comment time is over.
