West Seattle Crime Watch: Another stolen car to watch for

Another stolen car to watch for: Chuck says his car, a teal ’94 Honda Civic two-door, California plate 3GAE402, was stolen over the weekend near 18th SW/Barton (one of several recent auto thefts in the area, he says). It’s been reported to police – who tweeted it via @getyourcarback. Call 911 with any info.

Seriously, all of the older Honda cars are being stolen. How long will it take the cops to set up ONE bait car and catch the folks doing this? If it’s a couple of different folks doing it, at least the one bait car would possibly deter the others from trying it again out of fear. They used to do this all the time a decade ago on Dateline, why not solve the crime, rather than just let it keep happening….be proactive.

There is a killer all steal 6 inch device sold on Amazon that locks the brake or accelerator pedal in place down by the floor. It is akward to bend down and try to unlock it with the key provided, much less to steal, but would no doubt encourage a thief to fish elsewhere. It would also take too much time to try to disengage, or at least buy time so that the thief would be seen by a passerby or neighbor. That with the club would be at least a deterrant.

I spoke with a salesman of a local West Seattle auto parts store whose car was stolen. When he got it back he went to a local alarm shop and had a system put in the motor that shuts the motor off when the car gets turned on when alarm is previously set.
