TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Watch out – wet Wednesday

(WS bridge and Highway 99 views; more cams on the WSB Traffic page)
Good morning! With major rain for much of the night, that’ll be the big news for the morning commute. Other notes:

SCHOOL’S OUT EARLY: For Seattle Public Schools, it’s two-hour-early dismissal today.

TRANSPORTATION NEWS: Bus didn’t come? This might be why … Miss the Fauntleroy Boulevard open house? Here’s what you missedSDOT declares road-work season mostly over.

9:49 AM: As commenters are pointing out, traffic is, overall, terrible – and the rain has just hit downpour level again.

The BSTunnel closure luckily was over by 6:25.

if you use Avalon Way, there’s a bus stalled right before the turnoff to Spokane St. that’s causing traffic to back up on Avalon.

Plenty of SOV bus lane cheaters on Avalon this morning. Fortunately the lack of an accident on the Bridge and 99 within the 7 to 8am hour helped to minimize the lateness to work by about 12 minutes.

I’m on the 21 bus and traffic is slow getting on the bridge. It took the bus almost 30 minutes to get from Gatewood to SODO. Thankfully we have a bus lane on the bridge or it would have taken much longer.

Utility work has closed the northbound bus lane on Avalon. Avalon to the bridge ramps is taking 15 minutes on the the C line.

Just got back from Delridge. Andover is backed up from delridge to the fitness club. Avalon is backed up from the bridge to Genessee. Wondering if it is a crash or just a sluggish commute. Saw one ambulance heading southbound on Delridge past Andover.

Eastbound traffic is horrendous. Backed up to the light at Fauntleroy, and backed up to Yancy on Avalon. Welcome to the new rainy day commite from West Seattle.

Took me an hour and 15 minutes to get from Morgan Junction to South Lake Union. Bleh!

Yuck! It took 30 minutes just to get through Andover onto Delridge, then 45 minutes to get to Fremont. I didn’t see any accidents anywhere. Just the rain.

Always seems to take us until about January to remember how to drive in the rain ;-)

I really don’t understand how our fellow Seattleites are so incredibly unable to drive in the the rain. It just seems like we have an abnormally high percentage of “terrible drivers” on the road. Crossing I-90 twice every M-F I still get frustrated with people slowing down because it’s brighter outside of the tunnel than inside or because there’s rain. If it’s bright, put on sunglasses. If it’s wet, hit your wipers. This isn’t rocket science.

I learned to drive in Alaska having to deal with glare ice, snow drifts, 10 foot visibility and worse yet there are less accidents per capita than here where we have much more forgiving conditions. I would really like much more strict tests for a driver’s license and requiring anyone getting a license who just moved here to go through the driving tests again. Maybe that might help a little bit? Who knows…

Sorry, comment time is over.
