In case you wondered about the helicopter …

Texts indicate some in Arbor Heights noticed the Guardian One helicopter checking something out in the North Shorewood/White Center area in the past half-hour; we’ve published an update on partner site White Center Now but are mentioning it here too – King County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. DB Gates says they were looking into an assault case that was a disagreement between people who knew each other, and they’ve moved on.

The victim of the assault (white male in his 30’s) came to our door to use our phone. He said he lived a block away (about 21st and 106th SW) and needed to use our phone to call the police. He claimed to have been assaulted by 3 black men who were robbing his house.

He was bleeding and obviously freaked out so of course we let him call 911. After he hung up, he handed back our phone and ran off in the direction he said he lived, leaving behind blood spatters on our front porch and living room floor. We hope he’s ok!

JerNJul, did it seem like the parties knew each other, or was this something random? Seems like there’s a lot more random/bad stuff in the immediate area– thinking of the incident on 26th & Roxbury a few months ago… I don’t let my family walk around the neighborhood anymore, sadly :(

If you didn’t click through to the WCN story – KCSO says they *did* know each other. NOT random.

Josh, it was really weird – he said he didn’t know them, but according to the website link, he did?

We haven’t seen much crime here except for having our truck stolen out of the yard a few months ago and some methed-out guy walk into our garage last year. That’s not so bad for having lived here ten years. We had way more crime when we lived near the Junction.

Still, with all the activity at Westwood, and the wandering hordes of drunk transients on 16th, I don’t let the kids leave the yard as a precaution. No way would I let them go to Westwood or White Center alone.

I realize our communities are getting better as more residents get involved and inform police of activities, but we’re nowhere close to being in the clear yet.

Guardian One did a fly-over of Alki 2 days ago, and while that’s pretty routine in the Spring/Summer (they do a few fly-bys each year), it was the lowest I’ve ever seen it. Remarkable aircraft, veryyyy quiet. The technology on board that and the professionalism of the pilots I’ve known is incredible.

Sorry, comment time is over.
