Checking on ‘booms’

8:06 AM: A few reports in so far (from various spots around West Seattle) of loud explosion-type sounds. We’re monitoring the scanner and the 911 log and so far no related incidents have been reported – here or anywhere else in Seattle, anyway. Just wanted to make a note here in case you were wondering whether anybody else heard them! Please comment (or e-mail us) if you have any more info – we’ll update if there’s anything to add.

8:35 AM NOTE: Still a mystery – nothing locally or regionally. If anything ever emerges, we’ll add it here; otherwise, it’s in the “mystery boom” file …

I heard it too – I’m just north of SSCC above Duwamish

I heard it — I’m in Pigeon Point. It frightened our firework-hating dog, too. My first thought was something like the boathouse explosion that happened a few months back on the Duwamish, but I haven’t heard any sirens like we did that time.

We heard the explosion sound in Seward Park. Surprised it wasn’t followed up with sirens.

I was always told growing up here that it was when the combustion in the burners were heating up at the Steel Mill they would make a booming sound. I have heard that sound my whole life here in West Seattle.

I’m in the Admiral District and heard it also. Makes sense about the Steel Mill. Believe it or not, in the quiet of the early morning, I can sometimes hear the harbor seals!

I heard it too, we are on Genesee Hill thought it might have been industrial noise from the terminal or Nucor…..

We heard an enormously loud boom in Seaview a few nights ago. It sounded like it was only 20 yards away. We kept an eye out for a while afterwards but never saw any activity or hint of what might have caused it.

Maybe kids with strong fireworks are playing pranks?

Heading to jogging group. Heard it at California and Andover.

I live in Admiral and heard it as well, followed closely by the faint sounds of drumming. I’m assuming unrelated as I don’t think a high school band would have a cannon on hand, but hey! you never know…

I hear the booms/explosions a lot. Never hear any sirens following them though. They are seriously LOUD.. I’m in the area of 35th Ave and Morgan. Its not fireworks, that’s for sure.

I heard them downtown plus low flying jet sounding like one of the Blue Angels. Thought maybe connected with the ball game or maybe an air show somewhere?

Sorry, comment time is over.
